For what it is, the retail price is ridiculous. $80 for a single purpose remote? I bought mine used for $20. When it works, it's a nice device to have for when your camera is not in your field of view. I use mine for recording RC vehicle videos from my chest. I have a lanyard connected to my hero5 and it hangs from my neck. The way the connector works, it hangs upside down and I'm not able to see the back of the camera or the blinking light telling me I'm recording. I have the remote velcro'd to my RC transmitter which is always in my field of view. So, I can easily see the blinking light on the remote while recording and also see the battery life and other useful info about the camera while recording. My only real issue with it is that it doesn't connect properly all the time. I have to keep re-connecting it to the camera before I can use it. Once connected, it seems to work fine, but if I switch the battery, then it seems to have issues reconnecting without going through the setup again. Half the time, the setup doesn't work and the remote gets stuck in pairing mode while the camera says it's connected. Sometimes shutting down the camera and remote, then turning the camera back on using the remote makes the remote display properly. Other times, I have to repair it again. If I paid $80 for this remote in conjunction with $300 for the camera (I paid retail for the camera), I'd be a lot more irritated at the connection issues.Read full review

Better to use the Smart Remote (3 button version that has both wifi AND bluetooth) for the latest GoPro models. GoPro support says "We no longer provide support for the Wi-Fi Remote in terms of compatibility with the HERO8 Black.". Not all GoPros are compatible with GoPro remote controls, even if they have some wireless functionality and work with the GoPro mobile app. Examples are the HERO7 Silver and HERO7 White. Both work with the mobile app, but you can’t connect a remote to them.

The GoPro Wifi remote control for my Hero 8 works great! I have it mounted on my Rad ebike so I can easily control my camera when I'm going down the logging roads. I can easily remove it, carry it with me to remotely control my camera switch is still mounted on my bike. It's a good value, solid build. The LCD screen is easier for me to see to make sure I am taking a photo or video. In the bright sun, it's hard to see if my GoPro camera IS taking videos or pictures.

The GoPro remote for my Hero4 is simply amazing. Why? It allows me to control the camera when riding and the large keys, LCD display and LEDs inform me when the camera is recording. This remote works perfectly with the external battery eliminator which didn't work for with the phone app on my Samsung Note8. The ability to power on/off, start/stop recording and at the camera - feature a spot on the video is huge. The wrist strip will allow me to either wear it on my arm or connect to my ignition key for easy access when on motorcycle rides. Having a status screen on my wrist of what the camera is doing means, I don't need a LCD rear screen. I'm a ION Camera user with three(3) cameras; helmet, rear facing and mobile uses. The GoPro Hero4 is my new Front Facing Camera mounted on the left Goldwing F6B mirrow. Love it and would buy again. I'm a fan. PC Ninja Clinton MDRead full review
