About this product

Product Information

A stunning work of literary suspense by the the acclaimed author of All Things Cease to Appear. "The memory starts here, in my apron pocket, with the gun." Lydia Haas is devoted to Jesus, her church, and her husband. Only recently, after it's too late, has she understood how much she has sacrificed to all of them. Michael Knowles is a rising young doctor, an OB/gyn at a prominent hospital. A man committed to his principles, to rescues with uncertain outcomes; to his wife. The life they've made. He never intended to have to make a choice. Annie Knowles is the "doctor's wife." The first time she walked into their 1812 Federal-style home in High Meadow, an idyllic town in upstate New York, she thought she'd be happy there forever. But that dream wore thin, and another man--a colleague at the local college where Annie teaches--is insinuating himself slowly, surely, passionately into her life. Simon Haas' paintings of his wife Lydia made him famous. The story behind those paintings, and behind his marriage, is not one Simon chooses to tell. Until he meets Annie Knowles. Elizabeth Brundage's debut work of fiction is the story of two couples and the cataclysmic intersection of their lives.

The item arrived with damage to the artwork, which was not mentioned or highlighted in the listing. I reached out to the seller more than once, including a return request and have not received any response from them after waiting a few days. I’ll have to ask eBay to step in unless they finally respond after leaving this. At this point, I discourage buying from this seller.

  • The Doctor's Wife

A pleasant surprise in terms of entertainment value and having been well written. The author spins a tale around a doctor who decides to perform abortions in a small town and thus becomes the target of a fundamentalist pro-life group that is out to kill him. Meanwhile his wife, who feels neglected due to her husband's work schedule ends up enmeshed in an affair-- that unbeknownst to her has connections to the fundamentalist group after her husband. In short, this story would make a great movie. An absolute page-turner.

  • Wonderful Read!

I read "Someone Else's Daughter" first. (Elizabeth Brundage's Second Novel) It was excellent. I'm so glad I decided to read "The Doctor's Wife". It was an excellent read. I coulnd't put it down. Never expect the expected to happen. I love that. If I can figure out he ending half way through I'm disappointed. What you expect to happen doesn't happen. Enjoy.

  • The Doctors Wife by Elizabeth Brundage

Sitting on the edge of your seat , total immersement into a situation that has all , too real , ties to the world as we know it . Elizabeth Brundage makes the reader feel every heartbeat , sob , emotional tear , and utter terror that she depicts so well in her characters . excellent !!!!

  • Very Fitting Title - An Excellent Author

This is one of the best books I have ever read! It has everything - happiness, romance, laughter, sorrow, mystery and lots of twists and turns. As a matter of fact, I didn't read it, I inhaled it! The main character , Annie Knowles - isn't one you will soon forget. If you are looking for an amazing ride, check out this book!

  • The docs wife

A detailed story of deceit, betrayal, and surprising twists. It took me a few chapters to really get into the story and understand exactly what was happening and how the characters interchanged. But once I established the basics, I could not put the book down. It ends in a real twist.
