I'm a previous owner of the XB950BT and loved the sound quality and over-the-ear style. Though this is a slightly different design (cups fold in this time, which makes the way the headband sits slightly wider), it didn't compromise the crisp sound and deep bass, and even added noise canceling. Not a huge fan of NC, as it creates a sort of suctioning of my eardrums that can be a bit uncomfortable, but it does provide a very noticeable difference when the feature is turned on. An added feature that I appreciate is how the on-device controls work even with the 3.5 mm cable connected to a source (the 950BT couldn't do this). Well, not all the controls. Only the ones on the left cup (power, bass boost, noise canceling) - the play/pause/seek and volume controls do not work outside of Bluetooth hands-free mode. One annoying feature is the pause in sound when the device announces status ("Bass effect, on"; "Noise canceling, off", etc). The previous version just made the change and didn't delay the sound at all. Of this writing I don't know if that feature can be turned off. Overall a nice upgrade to the XB950BT. Only time will tell if this device will outlast my previous one -- the swivel on the left cup broke on my first one and hoping this one doesn't suffer the same issue (that's what headphone cases are for!) -- but so far I'm enjoying the purchase.Read full review

My first noise canceling headphones. Excellent sound quality and long battery life. I use loud equipment and I hoped for more noise canceling, but I’d say the headphones do an acceptable job.

Damn, these headphones are amazing, the fact that the Boise cancelation works pretty well when sound plays as well the added bass boost feature goes pretty well, the controls are good to memorize and easy to reach, the audio quality is spot on... Something tells me I ain't putting these down for a bit.. My only gripe was the pacifying, I thought it would be in a box and ball was exposed, however the bubble wrap seemed to keep it safe so I ain't complaining much. These headphones are great

This is an excellent set of headphones. I purchased these to use at work for blocking out noisy phone calls and conversations. The ear-pieces are comfortable and do a great job of blocking out sound by themselves. I'd like for the bridge-piece betwen the ear-pieces to have a little more arch - it sits kinda heavily on my head - but its fine. The sound quality is awesome, and gives plenty of bass boost if you like that. The noise cancelling feature is one of my favorites. Any persistent background noise (HVAC humming, engine running, etc) is eliminated. I can still hear voices, but they're reduced somewhat - enough that some quiet music blocks them completely. Next time I'm on a flight, I won't care about being at the back of the plane. The bluetooth works really well. I saw there was an Sony app I could download for my iPhone to control the headphones . . . but its comepletely unneccesary. All the controls work without it (don't even know why they offer an app??). The buttons around the ear-pieces are easy to use, and easy to locate with your fingers without taking the headphones off. Using the headset for phone calls is super easy, and my wife said I sound pretty much the same using the headphones versus just holding the phone against my head. The battery life seems solid. I don't have any real data to report, but I've had the headphones two or three weeks, and haven't charged it since I received them. Granted, I'm not wearing them all day every day . . . but when I take them off, I've frequently forgotten to turn off the noise-cancelling function while they're sitting on my desk, and the battery level is still high. I'd recommend these to anyone.Read full review

I have now used both top bass headphones(according to youtube) these(Sony Mdr-xb950n1) and the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless, so if your looking for a good pros and cons of each, then read on. Skullcandy Crusher Wireless-(Bought Brand New) Pros- 1.) superior bass compared to the sonys, not just a little bit, but a whole lot. if you crank the bass up and lay the headphones down you can see them shaking.* 2.) easier control of bass(has a slider built into the headphone) 3.) moderateley better battery life**( got about 4-5 days for how I use them) 4.) smaller profile*** Cons- 1.) very, very, tight fitting*** 2.) kinda bland looking in my opinion 3.) not a very good build quality- broke on me within 7 months***(reason why I bought the sonys) 4.) no noise canceling(NC) 5.) bass does have a weird vibration/rebound effect at high levels(this is a weird explanation but, if you've ever tapped on a jar of hair gel before, it feels and sounds like that) Sony Mdr-xb950n1 - Extra Bass-(Bought Refurbished) Pros- 1.) slightly better overall sound quality 2.) slightly better looking(in my opinion) 3.) Noise Canceling- didn't think it would be that big a deal, but its pretty awesome. it wont block out any random noise, but any constant monotonous noise such as fans, it does a pretty decent job of canceling out(pretty much you can hear your music more clearly and at lower volumes) 4.) better Build Quality. I've only had these for a week but after seeing how my crushers broke these dont feel like they would break on me in 7 months 5.) way more comfortable 6.) app to control various settings (i only used it to turn the bass all the way up) Cons- 1.) Bass is significantly lower than that of the crushers* (it might be because they are refurbished, so i wont say to much, but if a brand new pair has better bass than the pair i have then my headphone consideration might change. 2.) not as good battery life(got about 3 days for how i use them) 3.) they are kinda big TLDR: if your looking for straight up the most bass then i would go for the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless all day, just be cuatious of the build quality. but if a new pair of sonys have much better bass than the refurb pair that i have(even if its less than the crushers) then I would actually say get the sonys. NC is pretty awesome, they are a lot more comfortable to me, and they don't feel like they would break on me anytime soon. but as of now it really is night and day in the difference of bass with the refurb pair when compared to the crushersRead full review
