I used to watch the new arings of all 22 episodes of Liquid TV! It was outrageous, wierd, outlandish, sexy, and very much surreal like looneytoons on STRONG acid. I could not get enough of the show and the animation it showcased. Snookles the Dragon had to be hands down the funniest episode out of all the first season and the best. The look of shock on the baby dragon's face after he accidently roasts the bird he was singing with was priceless. Ah the good old days when MTV still innovated once in a while. Now we come to this particular reason for this review. Why did I give it a one? Simple, it is not a collection of the BEST of Liquid TV. It is heavy on Aeon Flux. Dont get me wrong about Aeon Flux. That was "Oil Me down and Spank my senses" animation in tight black leather and deserves its props and it does with its own collection of Pure Aeon Flux but Liquid TV was a sampling of different flavors of the insane world of the inner mind of animators! Beavus and Butthead made their premier with Frog Baseball on Liquid TV (GO MIKE JUDGE!!). Had the best been on this tape (AND DVD of this release) I would not be calling this one a clunker. There were a couple of good laughs but I think it would be better appreciated if you were STONED out of your skull so its lacking qualities are not as visable in the viewing. I am glad to have a piece of some of my favorite animation but without Snookles it is not the best of at all. If you need to be Spanked by the secret agent lady in the minimalist glossy black ;eather then do yourself a favor and spend the money on the Aeon Flux collection instead. There is a season one DVD out as well. Then you get non-stop fast paced visual seduction without some rather dull interruptions. This tape is also very light as far as content goes. For what this was hyped up to be one would think there would be at least an hour of animation. Bang for the buck is WAY lacking. This is MTV corporate greed at it's best. Poor quality stuff thrown out at discriminating consumers causes piracy to fill teh void left by disatisfaction caused by shoddy products. Think of this tape as a Yugo GV. It still runs if all it did was sit in a garage. Otherwise how many of those do you see this day. This tape will sit in the back of my collection for those rare moments the insult of what this tape is not do not affect me that much. If you get it cheap like I did you got your money's worth but i feel soory for the poor people that ponied up thirty plus dollars for this one. At that fishing derby, insead of pulling in a fish you landed a boot! Then a old tire. This seems to be a regretable phenominon with MTV releases. If they ever released the collection of all 22 episodes it would probably cost a small fortune again makeing black market releases more popular. Sometimes industry creates the problem they try to combat. If you REALLY got to have soem Liquid TV then go ahead and buy this one but don't come into it with high expectations. MTV did no justice to one of my all time favorite shows!Read full review
Don't get me wrong...I LOVE Liquid TV but the VHS contained mostly Aeon Flux clips....which is cool. But I could have just purchased Aeon Flux DVDs (which is an excellent series btw). We, as fans, want a bunch of the best Liquid TV clips with its off the wall humor and awkward animation. This tape has very little of that. This video definitely does NOT contain the BEST of Liquid Television. My question: Why did MTV lie in the title "the Best..." because all the great animated stuff was missing....MTV should have done better.
