Let me say that this is one of the best cd's i've ever bought! This is a big thing because first of all I rarely like all songs on an ablbum, and next thing is i usualy listen to more hard rock and metal. I loved just about every single song on this album for a ton of reasons! I thought this album is great because the songs are catchy, are a WHOLE lot different from their other releases, the lyrics are amazing, and of course they sound good! The song starts out with the popular song "Meant to live", this is a great track that is a great track not only music wise, but the lyrics make a lot of sense, and can relate to a lot of people. It is a song about hope, as Jon Foreman has stated. It was also the reason I bought the cd, so if you havent heard this song, you should hear it before you purchase the cd. The cd then goes into the more softer songs "This is your life" and "More then fine". These are great songs with great lyrics, in "This is your life" it is basically questioning if you are living the life you want to live, and if you are who you want to be. "More then fine" is about feeling just "ok" and not great, and wanting to feel better then just "ok" in which case I can relate too. Now the cd pushes further into the louder song "ammunition", and its a pretty good song over all. Now it comes to "Dare you to move" that was getting tons of airplay at one time, not so much anymore, but it is a great song, with wonderfull lyrics! If you've gotten the older album called "learning to breathe" you will see it on there as well! After that it reaches the song "Redemtion". I loved this song since the day I bought the album, it's just realy catchy, and it makes a lot of sense. Redemtion is one of the rare songs on the album, that really shows some religous feeling in it. This next song I dont like as much as the others, cause its kind of boring, and its the song " The Beutiful Letdown". You can be the judge of that if you get the album, the lyrics are nice though. The next song is "Gone". I like this song, cause its pretty catchy, and the lyrics arent all that deep, so people can relate to them. Its basically about grabbing hold of things before they are gone, because nothing lasts forever, cause life is so short. After that song there is the song "On fire". Its not my favorate, but its still good. It is a really soft song at the begining. I like the lyrics though, and I like it better then the song "24". Next is the song "Adding to the noise". I love this song! The lyrics arent that deep, but I like it that its louder then the others, and catchy at the same time! Ok the last song is "24". I dont have much to say about it, cause I just dont like it. It is a boring song, with bad lyrics pretty much. I do reallize hoever that it is about Jon Foreman's brother turning 24, and i'm sure it means something special to them both. Well thats what I think of the cd! You should probably listen to a few clips of them, or buy a couple songs before you buy the album, just so you get an idea! I loved it, so i hope you do to!Read full review
Wow! What a great bunch of guys! Despite the obvious knack & talent, these guys are the real deal! All I've seen is humility & sincerity! The only band I've actually heard publicly state that 'fans would have better time spent reading the Bible instead of listening to their music'. (And you know they have a lot of fans!) That's b/c they know the truth & understand the eternality of the situation. (That's not an exact word for word quote but it is the complete gist). I don't even need to say anything about the music, nearly every song is a hit & the rest are just 'unpopularized' hits. These guys aren't afraid to ask the hard questions & offer fair challenges w/ their music. Putting all the elements of sound & truth together into a hit is hard enough but these guys do it w/ casual ease, repeatedly. Too many phenomenal songs to list. The whole star & musician lifestyle is difficult & trying but these guys seem to have a heart for their fans, humble & grateful. Of course their goal is to honor God & point the people to the Truth, & that's the essence of their music. & that's what you get w/ each album.Read full review
I was very dissapointed when I picked up switchfoots 4th release. I've been a fan of the band ever since Ledgend of Chin came out. They almost compleatly forget their past style and change to a more radio friendly, over produced, pop rock band. If your a fan of their stuff prior to this album, then you might think about bidding on this. It has a few good songs, like "ment to live" and "ammuntion". But other then that, its pretty dull. They almost had a good song with "gone" but after a couple listens the song gets old. Ha, the same goes for the entire album. I think The Beautiful Letdown will stay on my cd rack and I'll stick to Ledgent of Chin, now THAT is a awesome cd.
To me, this one of Switchfoot's best albums. Every song is great and packed with witty deep verbage accompanied by superb music

This is a solid cd, front to end. Every song is good. The lyrics are soul-searching, honest and raw. The sound is creative and varies from song to song. Switchfoot has finally found their sound here. Their previous efforts only hinted at their potential but this finally puts them over the top. Following releases will find it difficult to top this one. This is a rock cd that will have both pop appeal and metal interests. While not every songs rocks, even the easy listening ones hold your interest. The lead singer has found his range and the band has certainly come together here. The lyrics continue to be thought-provoking and challenging. They address the human predicament, humanity and its sins. It addresses disappointment and heartache with emotional sensitivity. The only negative that I could add would be an overuse of sound effects. I wonder how such fillers translate in concert. While the cd is produced well and the distortion kept under control, Switchfoot needs to maintain that sense of rawness as well as the slick work that they have accomplished here.Read full review
