Odd Thomas was my introduction to the series featuring the character Odd Thomas. I will have them all shortly. I love to read. During the past yr I was introduced to the joys of books on CD. This way I can "read" while I drive. I didn't think it would be satisfying, but it is! ODD Thomas is so good I found myself sitting in the car for a few extra minutes so that I could "finish the chapter." Odd Thomas has a paranormal factor that is central to the story. Paranormal is so popular right now. I think this book will truly interest people who enjoy a paranormal twist. But don't think that you will find vampires and werewolves in it. As with anything Dean Koontz writes it is very well written. The characters are well developed and it's full of twists that you didn't see coming. This isn't the best review that I have written but don't hold that against the book. This book is fabulous. Audiobooks in general--give them a try. They are great for the car ride back and forth to work or trips. They are also great while working out. The need to "finish the chapter" means you get an extra mile in on the treadmill. If you shop around on eBay you can find great prices ($4 to $10) depending on the author. Don't settle for the "new, Barnes and Noble prices" that pop up at the begining of your search. Also look for sellers who discount shipping. Some sellers will even top out their shipping around $7 when you are buying large quantities. Last but not least...I have learned I perfer the unabridged version most of the time.Read full review
I drive alot and got into the habit of listening to book on CD but the moment I finished hearing this book I felt incomplete because I needed to know more about Odd, how he's doing, and who's visiting him beside Elvis. Dean made me know Odd and care bout his life as if he were a real person. You will be transformed by this book but if you are reading this one; then you will be happy to know that there are two more novels you can pick up. I highly recommend this book to those who love a well written novels, intrigues, horrors, enigmas, and mysteries of life all rolled into one.
Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz) I purchased Odd Thomas after reading the first chapter in Maxim magazine, I had to wait a month for the book to come out, but it was well worth the wait. Odd Thomas will grab hold of you and pull you in. You will not be able to put it down. Final Verdict: Borrow or Buy: A Definate Buy!!! This book is great whether you are a fan of Dean Koontz or not. Be sure to check out Forever Odd and the upcoming Brother Odd (December, 2006). PLEASE VOTE IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL. Thank you.
I am a fan of the author, Dean Koontz. This audio book is the start of the series on Odd Thomas. Yes, that is the name of the main character. He is unique, quirky, funny, serious, a short order cook, and he talks to the dead. My interest was grabbed almost immediately. Unfortunately, the love of his life is killed early in the reading. Even before finishing this book, I ordered the next 2 audio books in the series because I didn't want to have to wait before knowing what happens in the life of Odd Thomas. I highly recommend this book to you and the others in the series. You will not be disappointed.
I listened to this book because my friend and I were driving 500 miles together and she liked this type of book. I ended up loving it. Since then, I've tried some of his other books but for sure this one is the BEST. A true work of art. His characterization, description and plot weave a story you can't stop listening too. The reader was excellent and the CD was put together with short tracks if you get distracted. I recommend this audio book as one of the best - EVEN for a person who doesn't like this type of book!
