A highly sought-after guitar from Martin, the HD-28 offers classic looks and beautiful sound. This guitar has the Solid Sitka Spruce top, Solid East Rosewood back and sides, and a Solid Black Ebony fretboard. This combination is perfect for a nice balance of all of the tones on an acoustic guitar. The polished gloss finish is accented nicely with the Herringbone inlay on the top. Another important aspect of this guitar is the feel of the neck and the action. Let’s just say this guitar’s comfort and ease of use will allow for hours of playing with little fatigue. The main difference between the HD-28 and the D-28, aside from the Herringbone inlay and a Tortoise color pickguard is in the bracing. The D-28 uses the Standard “X” bracing which help make Martin famous, whereas the HD-28 uses the Standard “X” Scalloped bracing. This method takes some of the bracing material away and therefore allows for the soundboard to vibrate more freely. You will notice that you have a little more bass response and maybe even crisper highs. This enhanced “responsiveness” may just be what you want in your sound. Immerse yourself in sonic bliss today with the HD-28.Read full review
This is my 2nd HD-28. I had to sell my first one in tough financial times. I soon realized how much I missed that beautiful sound. Unplugged it will easily fill a good sized room. Plugged in it sounds big, rich and really deep! The neck in not as fast as most Taylors and Gibsons. It takes a bit more work to play than those but (IMHO) well worth it. The sound is not only big it is extremely clear and these guitars ring forever! You may have to back off on the bottom when recording or playing live (minor tweak) The guitar is solid, beautiful and very well made. No abalone, no inlay, just simple elegance. I have a fancy Koa Taylor and it's great. But, I play this one when in counts! The HD-28 may take a while to open up but when it does, Hallelujah!
This guitar, is the one. It plays and sounds so amazing. My mom bought this for me for my graduation gift, it was the best gift I have ever received. This guitar is expensive, but I'm telling you, it is amazing. It has a sound that sounds like it is in a recording studio. It is more of a strumming/ using a pick guitar. It is good for finger picking to, but on this guitarist prefer to use a pick. I love it and could not ask for a better guitar. Will cherish this guitar forever.
purchased a project HD28- busted soundboard from being dropped. it turned out to be one of my easiest and most successful jobs that I've taken on- turned out great! Most magnificent guitar I've ever seen- I also play a D45 but now not as much as I used to. It's a 2015 model and this Herringbone 28 outshines them all including a bunch of standard 28s. I love it in case you couldn't tell.

This Martin HD 28 is my fourth acoustic guitar, and it is a dream come true. I play mostly older classic country and gospel tunes, along with a little bluegrass, and I couldn't be happier with the guitar. The guitar feels good in my hands, the action is set just right, and it rings out loud and clear. The easiest playing and best sounding guitar I've had my hands on.
