What a poor job done by the makers of this DVD. What Dan Aykroyd must think that on the back of the DVD his last name is spelled Akroyd. What an error. As for the DVD contain. ONCE you can get to it. You are FORCED to watch to promos at the beginning of the DVD for other Saturday Night Live items/shows. If you are a fan of Steve’s or SNL you will enjoy seeing a lot of memorable bits. “King Tut”, still remember this. Good to see these bits. MOST of the scenes are of course from the first few years of the show, BUT the photo on the back is from the 1990's. Has the late Phil Hartman & Chris Farley in the photo. SHOULD have been from the 1970's. To make this short, good DVD PUT a cheap, mistake filled DVD packaging & BEING SHOVED DOWN YOUR THROATS PROMOTION ON IT.Read full review
Brings back many memories, especially if you are a fan of Steve Martin and his humor. There are many highlight clips from his many times of hosting SNL. Included are: 1) "Tonight Song" Opening; 2) Banjo & Arrow Monologue; 3) "Rise"; 4) The Festrunk Brothers; 5) To My Love; 6) The Coneheads and the I.R.S.; 7) Indian Dance Monologue; 8) Common Knowledge; 9) King Tut; 10) Hollywood Minute; 11) Theodoric of York; 12) Penis Beauty Cream; 13) Jeopardy 1999; 14) Tightwad 007; 15) Steve and Bill Murray Monologue; 16) Theatre Stories; and 17) What the Hell is that? Format is DVD. Produced April 25, 2000. Runtime is 80 minutes. I truly loved seeing King Tut again. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer.
This goes WAY back to Steve Martin's early days on SNL. I wasn't fond of the beginning, which featured an opening monologue by Steve in the 1990s. My favorite was "two wild and crazy guys." I hadn't seen that skit since it first aired in the 1970s, and I was afraid it would no longer be funny to my more mature tastes. But it still worked, and the DVD is worth it for this skit alone. My only problem is I would have liked to have seen more of Steve's later appearances on the show. But I can't think of one bit I'd like to see cut from this DVD. The extras are so-so.
Saturday Night Live was at the peak of its time, with the best and funniest people you would ever see. You cannot go wrong with any of the SNL "Best Of" videos, they are all fantastic material. Very happy with the purchase, there was more than I expected.
