I was fortunate to find this CD on Ebay because it is not one stocked by most stores. Last month I had the opportunity to see Shawn Phillips after 30 years! I loved his music and saw him in concert many times in the 70's. But my collection of his music was on vinyl and is long since gone! The Best of Shawn Phillips is a fabulous walk down Memory Lane and gave me a refresher course before attending the concert. It includes most of the songs I'd have wished to have on hand from a good handful of his albums. I'd urge any older Phillips cult followers like myself or those who want to sample his style to give this CD a listen because he's still going strong, about to release a new album, touring and sounding as rich as ever.
I bought this cd after seeing Shawn Phillips live at a club recently. I loved his music in the 70's, Second Contribution was my favorite album at the time. I was hoping this cd would be a good sampling of his music over time. I was not dissapointed! He has a very distinct vocal singing style. This cd has become as much a favorite as Second Contribution.
