This product is Awesome. I heard a lot about the CAN’TS of cold blueing. My Mark 2 pistol barrel and receiver now look new! Deblued pistol, degreased with brake cleaner including the steel wool (0000). Warmed parts to about 135-140 in oven. Applied 4 coats, rinsing with water, drying and lightly going over with the (degreased) steel wool after each application. Oiled very heavily then placed in oven at around 130 degrees. Looks like factory hot blue job. Just amazing! Pour small amount in container and NEVER dip same applicator back in solution. You get out what you put in. CLEAN AND DEGREASED STEEL = AWESOME BLACK/ BLUE LOOK. DAMN IT MAN!

I've tried just about all the other cold gun blue's on the market...I'll stick with Brownell's 44-40.. Why?...because it works great and or better than other brands.

I have tried at least 7 Cold Blue formulas while refurbishing antique pieces. Some are ok and others just do not do the trick, but I am thinking that it is primarily affected by the alloy. 44-40 in most cases will give you the desired results (remembering that it is a cold blue compound), and you will certainly see the difference immediately. The best that I have found to date.
