I bought this book after seeing the tv series. I wanted to read the whole story without the restrictions of an 'adaptation'; however, for the most part, it's pretty close to the book. There's obviously some parts missing, and others changed, but on the whole I was pleasantly surprised. The story itself is good, the plot moves along well and the pace doesn't really slow too much. I hope there will be sequels due to the way the book ends, but of course nothing is ever guaranteed. I would recommend this book; it's a good, engaging read whether or not you've seen the drama series.

This is one of the great 'what-ifs' of modern times. Len Deighton presents this alternate England with beguiling simplicity, so that the premise is eminently plausible; not that it will not have been impeccably researched as ever, of course. A gripping exploration of the mutability of all human beings.

I read this as I watched the BBC version and each made sense of the other. A good read. It left me wanting a sequel.

Writing style seems somewhat dated at first and 'James Bondish' but compelling storyline overcomes initial reservations.
