Like "vintage" waffle maker
I found a vintage "1950's" like new waffle maker recently and gifted it to my Son. I really wanted one just like it to allow me to make a bit crisper waffle than what most newer waffle makers make. I gave this one a try and am very happy with how the waffles turn out. The wattage is 900 vs 1200 on the 1950's vintage waffle maker but the lower wattage has not been an issue. Perhaps it just take a bit longer to heat up to waffle making temperature. The griddle functionality is also a plus. This will be a handy counter-top cooker. I found a vintage "1950's" like new waffle maker recently and gifted it to my Son. I really wanted one just like it to allow me to make a bit crisper waffle than what most newer waffle makers make. Disappointed!
We have tried and tried to find a Black and Decker waffle iron to replace our old one that quit. The current ones they are selling are not as good as the older model we had, although they are the same model number(G48TD). We bought a new one from a local store and the first one was broken out of the box, the second one had plates that wouldn't stay latched in place and the third one, I actually tried using. It didn't heat hot enough to bake the waffles in a normal amount of time so the waffle pulled apart when I opened it and stuck to the two grids and they were very difficult to clean. Since this one on eBay was manufactured quite a few years ago and had the same base model number (Z1-G48TD) I thought it would be good like my old one. However, to my disappointment it does not get hot ... We have tried and tried to find a Black and Decker waffle iron to replace our old one that quit. The waffle did get done; it just takes an incredibly long time to bake a batch. We are keeping it because the grids stay in place and the waffles don't stick to the grids when they are done. It is new as advertised and was in perfect condition when it arrived. It has the instruction booklet with it, which has a 1985 copyright date on it. The bottom of the waffle iron says it was made in Brazil, as advertised, and is 900 watts which is the same wattage as my old one. The new models are listed at 1200 watts.

Disappointed
Very cheaply made, outside is tinny and thin, plates did not fit snuggly in brackets. I returned it because it was poor quality for the price. Never even tried to use it.

When it comes to old fashioned waffles -- not Belgian waffles -- this iron is about all there is. This is our third one over about 25 years. The first one had fine spiral heating elements that glowed orange: it lasted about 20 years. The second one was a bummer: the horseshoe-shaped bar elements (like a cooktop stove) heated unevenly and it took twice as long to cook. Finally we got a new one like the second one, and it works GREAT!When it comes to old fashioned waffles -- not Belgian waffles -- this iron is about all there is. Works well for the $$$
I bought this iron to mainly make waffles & grilled cheese. It does a pretty good job, I don't understand why a non stick plate needs to be sprayed before use, My only complaint is that the clips that hold the plates aren't strong enough and sometimes the plates fall out while in use.
