I read all the reviews and knew going in that SimCity Societies would not be challenging, and it wasn't, and I had no problems with that. I just wanted to create a city and be creative with it. I will say that the lack of heavy interactivity with sims was a little bit dissappointing, but, the game had it's positive sides too. There were lots of buildings to choose from, and it wasn't way too hard to be able to be creative in my city building. The game's playability isn't infinite, but, if you get it cheap it'll probably be worth it. My one suggestion is DO NOT buy the game used. I made the mistake of buying a used copy only to find that someone else had already registered that. This would be fine were it not for the fact that YOU have to have the registration account or else you can not access the downloadable content that EA makes availible on their site. I found this dissappointing because some of the downloadable content available only on the official site was pretty cool. Long story short, it's a fun game that'll keep you busy for a bit, but, don't expect to be playing it months from now, just to get maybe a week or so of really good play out of it, and then return to it for an hour or so every now and then.Read full review
This game reminded me more of Sim Theme Park on a larger scale. No longer are you forced to deal with all the hassle of zoning, water, budget, commerce, overcomplicated road-rail systems, upkeep costs, taxes, funding, etc. Pretty much EVERYTHING that used to make Sim City what it is has been dropped from this game. You make a simplified road system, a power supply, then you build away from hundreds of building types and designs. This game focuses more on making your working population happy, making sure they have jobs and venues to attend when not at work. And although this is a watered down Sim game, it still holds quite a bit of entertainment value, especially if you're a previous fan of the Sim universe. Your city can produce all sorts of unique characters that boost local business, entertain sims, etc. Some buildings come with special activated abilities, either activated with cash or upon completed visits from happy customers. It still holds some amount of merit any way you look at it.Read full review
This is a great game overall. You have a lot of options and a lot of buildings to choose from. You can build your dream city. Also it is not head to play this game. Another cool thing about this game was the downloadable stuff that EA puts on their website. You can download cool stuff(just make sure you buy a new one, otherwise if the key is already registered, you cannot download anything) Right now it is a great buy; low price for a good game! IF you like city building, then you will love this game!
The game is a good starter for people new to the genre. It involves creating a city from scratch with different styles and details. One thing I was a little against is the fact that this is not a typical SimCity game. It is more like a hybrid between Caesar and SimCity, which makes it lose a lot of points in my scale (the game is too loose on the game mechanics, taking the challenge out of the equation). In the overall, the graphics are nice (what isn't nowadays), the music is simple and forgettable, the mechanics of the game are not so challenging as SimCity 4. I would say this is a good starter but if you are a seasoned player, you shouldn't bother too much unless you are paying little money for it or if you are an enthusiast of the SimCity saga.
I bought this game because I like strategy games. I use them mostly when I am listening to audio CDs because there can be alot of fluff before you get to the core ideas or gems of knowledge that you are investing your time to get. My new computer with Vista would not play my old game so I decided to find a new one. This game has outstanding graphics. This game teaches you that the decisions you make have consequences. This game is free form meaning that the outcome is based on your individual decisions not on a rigid predetermined structure or framework. If you are interested in killing as many ________ as possible then move on this game is not for you. If however you want to learn how to plan and create your own world within the metaphor of a city then by all means get this game. I especially enjoy the themes you can select. One of the themes should be right up your alley. They range from whimsical to brooding. The tutorial is great in teching you the mechanics of the game. Play it a couple of times to get familiar with the mechanics of the game. After that the possibilities are endless. I give this game a very high recommendation for graphics and ease of play. Playing this game will teach you about planning and decision making. Two things are far as I can tell that are lacking in a public education. Future entreprenuers and leaders will be drawn to this game. Use it and learn. For the price of a couple of movie tickets you can't go wrong.Read full review
