Build Me Up Buttercup, Don't Break My Heart !
I'll make it short and sweet: These are the ORIGINAL RECORDINGS. The music is a mix of Pop and Soul, with a very 60's sounding band (Yeah!), complete with horns, soulful lead vocals, and soaring harmonies. The conception and production of the music is brilliant. These guys were most likely inspired by Motown, but I think they go them one better. In my humble opinion BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP is one of the greatest Pop singles ever recorded. It is sweet, poignant, and soulful. It's been forty years since this song by an English group rose to the top of the American record charts in 1968; but it's charm is undiminished by time, and it's fame entirely justified. There are other fine songs here as well, of course. Build Me Up Buttercup alone is ... I'll make it short and sweet: These are the ORIGINAL RECORDINGS.
