Great resource using best practices
Great single reference source for post secondary instructors. Combines info from many sources. Very dense read, but with numerous examples, tables, and charts. As a ten-plus year instructor, it was refreshing to read a textbook almost entirely based on best practice research. It is the best single text on teaching I've read. Be advised the book appears to be written for graduate Curriculum and Instruction majors. Consequently, my biggest issue was the lack of a glossary of terms and usable index to look up specific details/topics. The author's opinion only occasionally seeped in. (For example her comments on the pros and cons of different types of test questions didn't align with my own experience.) I would check with your department's FERPA policies before using some of the classroom strategies. Some of the suggestions would conflict with my community college's guidelines.Read full review
