I have had a thyroid problem for about 20 years and have struggled with weight problems since then and have tried just about every diet out there. And am SO GLAD I DID...i am 5'1 and was upto 167lbs and now am down to 141..i want to go down to 127 and l know i can do it...i get on the treadmill for about 30min a day and have inspired the rest of the women in my dept to do this diet. I purchased this book because I was looking for a nutrition plan. A fitness instructor recommended something similar to the South Beach Diet. My picky eater husband and I are on Day 5 of the "Diet". We are losing weight, although that was not the intended purpose. This book is plum full of good advice and excellent recipes. Although it is written by a doctor, this book is a very easy read and with a little planning a fantastic plan to follow. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to better their daily nutrition and exercise.
Have the original book at our second home so wanted to try the updated book. Glad to see he’s including exercises; I don’t think diets work without exercise, even if it’s just walking. Disappointed that some of the original recipes are gone and the index is not very useful for finding specific recipes but overall well worth it.

I was familiar with this book before I placed my order I have used the South Beach Diet previously to shed a few pounds and new from the email updates that this edition had updates that would be helpful. I always like to have a ready referenc available and it isn't always convienent to go to the computer to check email folder.
This diet was recommended to me by my doctor. I have thyroid disease and this diet in particular has actually worked. It actually teaches you how to eat. I have lost quite a bit of weight while learning to eat properly. I have not felt deprived although the first phase of the plan is difficult as your body adjust to the change in diet. It should be considered as a lifestyle change.
