I've used quite a number of different tripods through the years from selling them in a retail photography store, as a photographer, as a college student and now as a photography teacher. So I have handled more tripods than the average person or even photographer. We've used a few different tripods with our high school students over the past 8 years and I can tell you which ones are junk and which ones hold up the best. The Sunpak tripods have withstood hundreds of students using them for the most part. Now, I know these aren't professional quality tripods, but for the price, they have held their own. Sunpak is one of the few makers that gives you a spare plate on initial purchase which as come in handy quite a few times after forgetful high school students loose them... There are some parts that do wear out though. Often our students over-tightened the leveling handle and it will actually break through the front of the tripod head or strip the nut inside. So, as I always tell the students, don't over-tighten anything, its all plastic. You do also have to be careful with the legs not to bend them because they are thin aluminum. If you bend them, they will not retract int the tripod body any longer. Overall, for the price point, Sunpak tripods are good. They are stable for point and shoots and even smaller SLR's. I like the rubber feet on these also with the option for the spiking stud to be used outside. The plates are also interchangeable between a number of their models. We will continue to look to purchase Sunpak tripods over other ones.Read full review
