I had the 25mm Olympus lens matched with my E420 for portability, probably the smallest combination for a real SLR Camera, which I much prefer. However, the single focus length was too restrictive. This 14-42 mm lens gives much greater flexibility for only a marginal weight and size difference and the aperture range is adequate. I also saved money!

I love this lens, it is the old model, and I hope it to be more durable than the other two who I bought before ( newer models) and stop to work with an ERROR CODE after being tired to complain with OLYMPUS trough an uneducated agent, I previously google some forums and found many complains for the same reason, I decide to buy this older model to avoid the same surprise. The lens is GREAT, when still working...

This is not the most well made feeling lens, though i trust that it is well designed in such a way where it should last. The lens mount is plastic, which is a downside, but it weighs practically nothing, so i am not too worried about that. I got the 40-150 f4 lens in the same class BEFORE this one, and got this one to compliment it. I would say that if you have a digital Olympus, these lenses work great. I have used both of these lenses to get wildlife pictures that have been framed at 20inches by 30. the biggest upside to this lens is the cost. you can get one for 100 dollars (same as many prime lenses for OM mount) but you can do so much more. the viewfinder on the EVOLT series cameras is particularly small and dark. this means when you get a FILM lens and adapter, you will hardly be able to A:see it clear enough to focus well and B:will have to turn the FSTOP open to focus the shot, and then close it off to where you want it for the final picture. Sorry for my lack of caring about how well structured this review is. I just felt like pointing out as much information in as little time as possible, but this part of explaining myself has just proven my failure to be efficient. Enjoy this lens if you buy it.Read full review
Good lens for the cost, higher optical quality than I was lead to believe. I'm quite satisfied with it for what it is, a low cost convenient compact zoom lens to use as an all around lens on any of the 4/3rds digital format cameras. Since the casing is plastic, it would be easy to break the mounting tabs if you were to drop or hit the lens hard on a surface. But then as with any optical items, care should be used.

It is sharp, easy to zoom and the price is good; but, the one thing I don't like about it is that it has to be manually collapsed after each use, annoying. For that reason alone, I have ordered the equivalent Panasonic and will be selling the Olympus,
