I knew prior to purchasing my CCW firearm it would have a built-in laser or a quality add on unit. I had cataract surgery and the doctors placed the far vision implant in my right eye and I couldn't focus either the front or rear sight of any of my pistol's. I settled on a Smith & Wesson Shield 9mm knowing several laser makers made excellent units for the Shield. I chose the Viridian Reactor 5 Green w/ECR Holster for it's automatic on/off feature when placed or removed from the holster. It saved me the additional cost of a holster also. Initially I did have some issues with the holster being a little grabby when the gun was coming out. With practice and use the holster started to wear in and my draw got better, I no longer have those issues. The laser is cleverly designed so that it looks like a built-in unit. I would recommend this unit to anyone considering a laser on the S&W Shield.Read full review

It did not fit my gun, sent back and haven't recieved reimbursement. They charged a 10% restocking fee, and I tried to stop them from shipping once I knew it didn't look like it would fit my S&W 380EZ M&P I have bought from Armalaser new replacements that fit. It would be great to have recieved reimbursement, which I am following up with PayPal/Ebay

Very nice product and fits really snug against the gun. Only issue I have is that the on/off button is concave AND off center on the contacts that turn the laser on and off. I pressed the rubber button to the point that it was pushed inside the housing. When I pulled the button out to reset it is when I noticed that the contacts were not centered with the hole. Since I had the small rubber button out I put a small dab of black RTV on it and let it sit overnight. The next morning I installed the rubber button, which is like a grommet without the hole, into the housing. It is now slightly convex. It is easier to turn on and off and you really can't see the RTV. If it wasn't for this issue it would have been a solid 5 star rating.

the laser is excellent even in broad daylight. It took 5 minutes to mount it. I did not have to adjust it .e. i could shoot and hit the target from day one right out of the box. I use the laser in pulse mode to save the batteries. The push button is much to small to activate the laser by hand. One needs the ECR holster. The ECR holster that came with the gun works but is not to my liking. Very unfortunately TacLoc does not make one for the Shield. I am still searching to find a Kydex holster with level 2 retention. This is also the reason why I have rated the product with 4 stars only. I hope this helps. regards peter

The Viridian laser is an great sight, but mounting screws are tiny and flimsy. The small Torx head will strip very easily. After damaging original screws, ordered battery kits, which are shown and was stated to contain screws. Had NO screws when they arrived. Contacted Viridian again. This time they mailed the required screws. I then slightly enlarged the screw holes on the side screw enters so it would not have to cut threads on both sides of the two-piece housing. Mounted easily and works great now.
