As an avid Red Sox fan, this was on my summer's must read list. I brought it with me on my vacation and finished it within 3 days of sporadic reading. Very easy read behind the scenes look at the Red Sox organization. I followed the events described in the book at the time they happened, but had no idea what happened outside of the public's eye. Mr. Mnookin is an excellent author. I did find the amount of footnotes to be a bit distracting. Also, I would have enjoyed to book better without the foul language. I realize Mr. Mnookin was trying to be as accurate as possible, but this is book I cannot share with my 12 year old son, who is also a huge fan of the Sox.
I had seen reviews and heard friends opinions that were very favorable about this book. I am presently reading it. I'm about halfway through and am thoroughly enjoying it. It is about the inner workings and day to day struggles of a major league baseball team,in this case, the Boston Red Sox. It chronicles their run to a world championship in 2004. While being a Sox fan and having followed their win in 2004,I obviously was unaware what goes into the building of a championship team. The book became available to me at a very reasonable price and I could not resist the opportunity. It was well worth it!
This is a must READ for all Red Sox and baseball fans. Sure to be a home run!!! An excellent and detailed behind the scenes of the Red Sox and the great baseball minds of Larry Lucchino and Charles Steinberg and John Henry and Tom Werner.
