I tried everything to get my fish tank cleaned. I have a 40gallon i would empty then refill. I ordered this pump did not come with a lot of instructions but remember the tube on top has an air adjuster valve this brings air into the filter do not leave in water. The first day it showed a little improvement and just got better and better. Probably best to do a though cleaning first then put the pump in my tank even after a though cleaning before the pump would get green within two days now sparkling clean sooo happy.

It worked OK for the 4 days it took to remove my algae bloom. I then pulled the plug and left it in the tank. A few weeks later the aquarium developed a leak and I replaced it (the aquarium). When I tried to power up the filter in the new aquarium I had to repeatedly unplug and replug the AC cord to get the pump to start. When I would then attempt to reduce the flow (the water has to stay inside the unit for a while in order for the UV to do any good) the flow would fall off and stop, and it would be back to plug - unplug -plug - unplug to get the flow started again.

These UV filters really work on algae and the UV light works for a long time. My only complaint is that they are a bit fiddly to open in order to clean the sponge filter. Otherwise, the best thing I've found for dealing with cloudy water and algae growth.

I was very taken back about what people thought of this product. I had bought it without even looking into reviews because of a recommendation from a friend. He was right! My new 36gal tank was as cloudy as could be, very very green... Most of my fish died (R.I.P. Foses), and even after doing complete water changes, I could not stop the bad bacteria from regrowing and killing. Make sure everything is tight, NEVER have it plugged in while your hand is in water with it. I had to run mine for about 5 days before the water was crystal clear!!! and the 4 fish that were left are still alive. After the 5 days I took it out and cleaned it. No black residue people talk about, No melting of the harness or pieces inside. Nothing but good clean tank, and healthy fish! Now of course that could very if you happen to get one that is just not put together right.. it happens.. BUT! If you are having a huge cloudy tank death to all fishes problem.. this could help. Have a great day.Read full review

I had a haze in my water that I just could't seem to get rid of and I got this after several water changes and trying everything else i could think of or read about. I've given it a week or so running in the 40 gallon tank and the water is absolutely beautiful.
