I learned to read before my first memory using this book. I just sent it to my 2 year old nephew who is learning to read. If you need a baby shower gift or any gift for a young one, this is it! I still have my original from almost 50 years ago! Stock up!👍

Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever
As a child this for me became one of those books that never ceased to be handled, a book from which drew so much enjoyment that it literally got read until it fell apart. The level of detail within the illustrations is such that each time you look something else, previously onnoticed, will almost jump out, with that sort of "oh wow" effect. The very nature of the simplicity of the words - to both write and speak - is what makes this such an almost must-have for any parent looking to develop their child's literacy and vocabulary. It's use of simple colour and everyday items is sure to capture child's imagination, and the slightly comical nature (phrases like "he doesn't eat the toaster") of presenting the world outside using animals will only serve to enhance the captivation. As a "Brit", the only downside of this book is that it contains a number of "Americanisms", so it may confuse children who attempt to understand that these seemingly different words are in fact the same thing.Read full review

Really Is The Best Word Book Ever
We went through 2 of this book when our boys were toddlers in the early 80's. I bought one for our granddaughter and she loves it, too. Bright colors and very detailed drawings. This big picture book covers just about everything. - items and activities. Very entertaining - for kids and adults!

Great learning tool for kids
My children had this when they were little and would spend hours looking at all the big, colorful pages. Richard Scarry's drawings are very fun and friendly and each item is labeled for the children to associate pictures with names. I highly recommend this book.
