I had this book recommended to me as I enjoy stories about fantasy with Dragons, Elves, and magic. If you like those themes, then this is the book for you regardless of your age. Its like Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter, but in a completely unexpected way. Its about a young boy, Eragon, who comes across a shiney blue stone by chance, which turns out to be a dragon egg that hatches before him. He is now the new owner of this Dragon and is on his way to coming the next 'Rider' (good-doers). And of course there is an Evil Empire that needs taking down. What I loved about this book was how simple it was, yet intriguing. For example, they way the describe the use of magic: all spells take a certain level of strength (similiar to that of lifting heavy items) and the more powerful the spell, the more you exert youself. Thus if you exert yourself too much, you'll over exert your capacity and die (don't attempt time travel). I can't wait to start reading the next in the series, Eldest. And its amazing that all this was written from a home schooled 15 year old boy. Recommended for all ages.Read full review
Eragon by teen author Christopher Paolini, the first book in the Inheritance Trilogy, tells an engaging tale of dragons, magic and adventure. The main character of this best selling fantasy book is Eragon, a 15-year-old farm boy in Alagaesia. When hunting in the Spine, a mountain range near his home village Carvahall, Eragon finds a blue stone that happens to be a dragon egg. After the egg hatches, Eragon raises the dragon secretly and names her Saphira. The evil Ra'zac sent by the King Galbatorix kills Eragon's uncle and destroys his home. Accompanied by old storyteller Brom, Eragon and his dragon sets out on a treacherous journey full of twists and turns. Toward the end of the story, Eragon the Dragon Rider, his newly made friend Murtagh, and Saphira arrive at Tronjheim, where the rebel force called the Varden is located. A big battle is fought in which Eragon helps defeat the enemies sent by the king. Likable protagonists and an interesting plot make it an entertaining book for both young adults and adults to read.Read full review
A wonderful fantasy book, far better than the movie,a good plot line, plenty of action and interest within, - suitable for all ages, even adults who enjoy something with the fantasy - fairytale about it, something to sink your teeth into even, drift off into another world, dimension and feel part of the whole experience, Descriptions within the story line are good, for a younger child maybe some of the wording is a little adult oriented, however it is a great way for them to learn a bigger vocabulary, and find out what some of these mean. My Dad taught me to read with a dictionary alongside from the time I was small, being a trait and habit I still use. Aiedail Gath un reisa du rakr !
I usually read Hard Sci-Fiction and not Fantasy Sci-Fi but I saw this in an Airport and NEEDED a book to read...It was a really intense book...I couldn't put it down...It is about a Dragon/Boy Rider and the special "mind meld" bond they form to battle the Evil King and his minions across a idyllic landscape...It is a simple story line but the imagery is unique and fun to read...There are Elves, Evil Minions of many shapes, Heroic Sad Figures, Pathetic Magicians, Ignorant Peasants, Noble Kinsmen & Seemingly Doomed Rebels...There are twists and turns with every page...I especially enjoy the Dragon...She is lovely...There is a Sequel "Elder" that I have purchased and will read...This is an EXCELLENT Fantasy Sci-Fi read and I would recommend it for all ages...
I wanted to buy it because it is a good book that I can rea over and over and still say, "You idiot!". It has much description and makes me see and hear them. If there was a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 9.5. The song "I Can See Clearly Now is exactly like the book. some books have a drizzle but Eragon is just after the rain. It's fresh and can go to many sequals.
