The Dean edge pro 4 bass guitar, is very heavy. But its alright since I use it as a studio recording bass. I bought the one with the Tiger eye finish, and it looks gorgeous. The mix of gold hardware, the burst finish and the flamed maple top makes this bass exceptionally good to look at. The all around look of this bass at a glance, will tempt you to pick up and play due to its stunning look. The overall natural sound of the bass sounds amazing, by the natural sound I mean, just playing the bass unplugged. The combination of the brass nut, flamed maple top and neck through construction provides this bright clear sound, similar to a fender j-bass. When plugged in, the Dean active soapbar pickups provides additional customization of your tonal colors with the use of the 3 band on-board EQ. The controls are similar to the Ibanez SR series. The only downsides to this is the use of a 9 volt battery, if you are not a fan of active pickups. However if you are, such as myself, then you will find that the battery compartment is very easy to access; no unscrewing is required. In the end, because of its construction and customization with the 3 band eq, this guitar sounds amazing overall. The play and feel of the bass is decent. The neck is painted which becomes sticky a bit when playing, I'm more used to satin finishes on the neck. And as I have said earlier it is a bit heavy which could be bad for live applications. The access to higher fret levels, beyond the 12th fret, can provide very low action due to the neck through construction. I find this a good thing because I prefer my action low. The general feel of this bass can be quite subjective with various people and how they prefer their instruments and what not. I find its feel and play bass to be good enough. This is a extremely great bass for recording purposes. It is awesome! I will probably be keeping this bass for sure. My personal quest to find the perfect bass guitar ends here with the Dean Edge Pro 4. Other basses I have gone through in the past during this journey were the LTD B-104 bass, and the Ibanez SR400qm. I recommend this bass for anyone looking for recording bassRead full review
