My husband and I bought this book with software included when we decided to start a family. It has invaluable information about the female reproductive system that every female from puberty on should know about herself and probably doesn't. It's not only for women trying to conceive/avoid pregnancy. Using this easy to read and understand book with illustrations, a female learns her personal physical patterns and is better able to determine if something should be checked or is a concern. There is also a great online forum (ovusoft) that is based off the book. I absolutely LOVE the software for charting, also. It's very simple to use, yet detailed also. It takes care of the guess work for you. When I showed the book and my charting from my software to my doctor and midwife, they both said that I probably knew more than they did regarding these things! That's scary of them to say that, but it's reassuring of how important it is that I've learned these things. They were also glad I was able to show them by my charting exactly when I conceived. :) * * * Please, it's well worth it to at least try it. * * * If you don't care for the book and/or software, you can always sell it or pass it on to someone else. There's no harm in taking it for a test run! Also, the software (which you can also download from ovusoft.com) starts as a 15-day FREE TRIAL, so you can try it with ABSOLUTELY NO COMMITMENT. Sorry to be so pushy. I just wish I would have had this information a LONG time ago. If you go to the Ovusoft website, there's also a version of the book for TEENS: "Cycle Savvy - The Smart Teen's Guide to The Mysteries of Her Body" also by Toni Weschler. This teen's book also has it's own website: www.cyclesavvy.com/ It's true - THEY DON'T TEACH THIS IN SCHOOL, BUT THEY SHOULD. And how much better that you can give her this information yourself? :)Read full review
I recently purchased a couple of fertility and conception books when my husband and I began TTC. ALL the other books referenced this one, so I decided to see what was so great about it. The descriptions for things like CM are soooo clear! Pics are even included!! This book totally helped me get a grip on my peak days! This version also came with a trial charting software that I absolutely love! I completely recommend this for anyone new to the TTC world! This book is great alone, but I use in in combination with "Fertility & Conception" by Zita West and "The Essential Fertility Log" bu Suzanne Schlosberg. The log isn't really necessary with the software, but I like having two different formats. Plus, I can carry my log around with me. I also use "The Everything Getting Pregnant Book" by Robin Elise Weiss, but most of the information in it is covered in the other books I previously mentioned. Good luck and lots of *babaydust* to all!Read full review
I have searched for quite some time for an alternative to hormonal BC. The options were limited and not altogether reassuring, until a friend told me about this book. This book is comprehensive and interesting. Toni spells it out for you in clear, easy to understand terms. Her concept is easy to follow and maintain, takes about as much time as finding your pills and taking them and has no side effects! What you also get is a much clearer, more in depth understanding of your own body. I learned things about myself that no doctor or book had ever explained to me before. Things that doctors SHOULD be telling their patients and dont. If you are looking for an alternative to hormones, trying to conceive, explain certain womens health issues, or just need a better understanding, this is the go-to book for all of that. Should you find yourself using this method, there is also a customized program for charting as well.Read full review
I love this book. My friend and I have both used this book for natural birth control during early marriage and then later for pregnancy achievement successfully. It is so helpful to know about your body, and not have to worry about whacking it out with all the hormones in birth control. Another friend of mine is now using this book because she was not able to get pregnant for over a year, only to find out after getting this book and charting that she was not ovulating (due to stress). Now she has started again and hopefully she will get pregnant soon. This book is a MUST HAVE for any woman of childbearing age's shelf! It will save you so much unnecessary money/worry/hassle at the gyno!
This book is more than just fertility. It's for any woman who wants to know more about how uniquely they function - not just the super crunchy or uber-religious. I can honestly say that I have no complaints about this book. In fact, I bought it for a friend. You can learn how to avoid or achieve pregnancy without invasive testing, artificial hormones or foreign objects. You can also learn how simple awareness can make you an informed patient who can advocate for herself. Husbands may benefit greatly by reading this as well. (Oh! She's going to need chocolate in about 3 days. I'd better run by the store.) I wish I had found this book years ago. I intend to put it in the hands of my daughters when the time is right. Warning: it may hack you off when you think about all the misinformation or poor treatment you've been the recipient of.Read full review
