I call it the Happy pill.
This is the second time I have used Natrol 5-Htp. The last time I was under a lot of stress and needed to stay focused and positive through the difficulty. 5-Htp help a great deal and when I was through the crisis I stopped taking it. Recently my Dog passed away and a few other things happened that distracted me from my normal routine and positive attitude. I am now taking the 5-htp again and it's is again helping me through these troubled times and I feel so much more positive about the future and it's helping me let go of my sadness over the death of my Dog. I highly recommend 5-htp as a temporary bridge to help get through tough times. I take 1 a day in the morning with my other vitamins after breakfast. If something comes up on any given day that is disturbing I take another tablet in the evening. By the time I've finished the bottle I usually don't need any more but knowing that I have it as a tool, is a great thing.Read full review

5-HTP is excellent if used properly
This is made from a South African seed, is all natural, and is an amino acid (a basic food) that breaks down into tryptophan and increases serotonin, which will help if you are a person with an imbalance in your neuro-transmitters. I have taken this for over 12 years, along with an anti-depressant, and it keeps my prescription dosage very low. DO NOT TAKE THIS WITHOUT CHECKING WITH YOUR DOCTOR!! It can interact with certain medications. I firmly believe that if you have a chemical deficiency which causes depression, a psychiatrist, not a general doctor should be the one prescribing medicines! It is not a cure all, and not something to take just because you have the short term "blues". This brand is the best value of all of the 5-HTP products I have found, and is sold by Costco. It can be found on eBay for less, but still a good value at Costco.Read full review

Depression gone!
I don't know exactly what Natrol's 5-HTP actually does in my system. But it is the only thing that has practically cured my lifelong problems with depression. I've been using this for a bit over a year now and swear by it.
