Honest portrayal
In my book, "The Encyclopedia of Third Reich Tableware" on page 321 there is a write up on "The Fuhrer's Gift" or "Fuhrergeschenk" instituted in October 1943 to recognize the sacrifices of both the soldiers and their families whereby a package of scarce goods (butter/marmalade/flour/honey etc.) were given to soldiers on leave to Germany. In the movie, our soldier gets such a package on his way home!
