No fishy smell, but lots of sandy silt in the bag and net. Rinsed it in a 5-gallon bucket in the driveway 4-5 times until water was clear. Smaller than 3 x 5 feet--more like 2 x 4 feet when spread out on the ground. Can be stretched to 3 x 5, but that would not look good for a display. Be sure to get a larger size than the display area. After the bucket rinse, I washed it in the clothes washer and dryer--it came out the same size, since it's not cotton, but it lightened up to a tan color.
