The upcoming Diablo III will see a whole new generation of fans drawn to this classic hack-and-slash series. For fans of and newcomers to the game, discovering the original Diablo PC game is a worthwhile exercise and this guide looks at the available characters of the original game Brief Game Overview It's now over ten years old, but the legacy that is Diablo lives on strong in the hearts of fans around the world. Blizzard Entertainmet, the company behind the Diablo game recently announced the eagerly-awaited Diablo III, but fans and newcomers of the Diablo series should first return to the original game in preparation for a whole new episode of hack-and-slash action.Set in the village of Tristram in the mythical kingdom of Khanduras, the original Diablo game featured three character classes; the warrior, the Rogue and the Sorceror. The Warrior The warrior is a powerful melee fighter, master of weaponry and capable of taking more damage than any of the other available classes. Warriors also gain a slight increase in the rate of strike with a melee weapon. According to the background, warriors range from barbarians from the northern highlands to noble paladins.Warriors are able to repair the equipment they carry, but in so doing lowers the item's durability. However, as a warrior advances in level, the durability penalty drops. The Warrior has a higher chance to hit in melee combat than other classes and is the only character to have a chance to cause a critical hit (which causes twice the original damage), as well as the best chance to block with a shield. The Rogue The rogues are essentially archers, and are relatively weak in hand-to-hand combat. They possess a higher affinity to magic than warriors and thus are able to make better use of magic in their battles, although not nearly as well as sorcerers. The rogues belong to a group called the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye, and are the best archers in the world of Sanctuary. The Rogue has the ability to spot doors, chests and coffins that might be trapped and disarm any traps found. The chance to spot and disarm a trap increases with the character's dexterity attribute. When determining the damage dealt with her bow, the Rogue calculates not only her strength but her dexterity as well; this also govern's the Rogue's rate of fire, which is similarly effected in the way a warrior's melee attack is. The Mage Mages are masters of the arcane arts and have the highest magical ability. They are very weak with weapons and are not suited to close combat, preferring to rely on their magic to smite enemies. With magic being their weapon, mages gain a slight increase in speed of casting a spell. In Diablo, sorcerers belong to a mage clan, known as Vizjerei, and have come to Tristram looking to discover long lost tomes of magic knowledge that lie under the cathedral. Mages can recharge magic staves at a similar cost as the warrior does with physical equipment, and similarly any reduction is lessened as the Mage advances in level. The Sorcerer has the highest chance to hit with a magical spell, as well as having a faster spellcasting rate. Mages also gain more mana than any other class from items that improve Magic.Read full review
if you cannot resist addictions, please dont play this game. its too good in terms of game play and multitude of gaming features available. really a well made game - no doubt about that. but after a while it becomes monotonous but still the vastness of the game makes u come back to explore more even with the same monotony. but the game is so addictive and if you decide to play over battle.net then be prepared to face a whole bunch of immoral fellows out there. cheating, abuses, dog fights and all sort of nonsensical stuff is out there. meanwhile you are sure to lose some or more of your efforts that you have accummulated over time in form of virtual items in the game. moreover blizzard's promises about its zerotolerance policies and all those stuff are all just in paper. they dont really take any measures to ensure safety in the game. the customer service channel is nearly useless too.Read full review
I liked a lot of things about this game. First, it has a great soundtrack, especially once you're in the dungeon. The voice acting is pretty good and the other sound effects help build atmosphere. There are a lot of really creepy areas and monsters in the game, and they are animated well. The map overlay was a good idea, since it allows you to play while seeing exactly where you are on the map. Regarding gameplay, most of the time you'll be clicking the mouse to move, attack, pick up things, and open menus. There is really nothing difficult to learn. The end fight was appropriately difficult, but not as insanely challenging as the final fights in Baldur's Gate 2. One really great thing about this game is that each time you start a new game the dungeon levels are redrawn and new monsters, treasure, traps, and other things are generated. There were a few things I didn't care for, but they are all together minor. First, this is not primarily a role-playing game. Diablo is mainly an arcade-style action adventure with some limited role-playing possibilities. You can only choose between 3 classes (fighter, sorcerer, or rogue); your stats are preset, although you can control how points are allocated between abilities during the game; and NPC interaction is very limited and more or less restricted to trading and quest-giving. Also, the town itself is small and static, and your character cannot carry much in his/her inventory. For anyone who hasn't played Diablo yet, it's definitely worth a look. However, don't expect it to rival games like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights in complexity, options, gameplay, or anything else. Again, it's good old hack-and-slash arcade action with a pinch of role-playing thrown in.Read full review
Gothic, dark, brooding, action packed slugfest of a hack in slash type style game. Yes Diablo II is the most complete Hack-In-Slash RPG ever made. You get to kill as many monsters as your computer screen can hold. This game is not considered to be an MMORPG, but in my opinion it comes close enough that you will have a hard time not believing it isnt. With free online play "Battle.net" you get to experience the Diablo universe with up to 8 other players at a time. Woo Hoo! If you like killing Demons and other freaky things then this game is for you. Have fun and enjoy this wonderful oldie but goodie classic of an RPG.
Graphics aren't good. Then again, we are in a time period where all graphics are amazing. So in this period of time, no Diablo's graphics aren't amazing. However, for when it was released, the graphics were my absolute favorite. You have to tweak it a bit to get it to run on window 7 computers, but after that, it runs smoothly. The game play, for an old Diablo game, is still very compelling to me today. It was a game I grew up knowing, and grew up fearing, and it will always still draw me in. The story isn't necessarily the best, but sometimes the story isn't what gets you. It's the combat system. In this case, you've got to think strategically while clicking on the screen to move your character forward, and then haphazardly try and kill goblins, or skeletons or stalkers before they kill you. I like the strategic thinking that this game makes you have. The most hated thing about this game that I personally hate to the ends of time, is the Butcher. Gave me nightmares as a kid, and still makes my skin crawl thinking about it. Great game for anyone who wants a taste of what Diablo was, and in my best, it is a keeper. If I had more thumbs, I'd give it ten thumbs up, but I'll stick with two thumbs up.Read full review
