A great story about a country vet in Scotland. Can't put it down. Discovered it at the library and just had to have a copy of my own. Such a sweet good man and his lovely wife Helen. Everyone in the town just adored him. And now his son has taken over his practice after his passing in 1995. Such a great caring man who was loved by all. Wonderful read.

If you really love animals and the struggles, conquests, and observations of a young Vet prior to World War II this is the book for you. We've come along way from those days but it's nice to know that some things never change. Well written and worth reading! I now own all the hard bound in the series, starting with the original books of the 70's the Children books, This book, and his son's memoirs of his Father.

For James Herriot fans, this is the best book. James has assembled his favorite stories in this volume that was published for Reader's Digest and added pictures of his Yorkshire countryside. The pictures give the stories visual life. I've read the book, my mother has, and now a neighbor has it. And there are several others waiting in line for it. I'm working on aquiring the complete James Herriot library because Mom and I enjoy reading and rereading these books. While this volume is taking stories from each of the other books, they are worth reading again and again.
For any James Herriot fan, this is a must-have book. The photos and illustrations further bring to life the area and people he so vividly describes. Buy this book and fire your therapist.
