This Dover edition of the original 1898 translation by Rev. Lee is from an abridged text with interesting annotations by the translator. Curious fables that credulous Sufi Muslims of 14th century could accept at face value abound. An interesting window into medieval times in Muslim lands and beyond.

I am very happy that this edition is now reprinted. A very important source for the knowledge of the Far East during the European Middle Ages. This information surely was available in Southern Spain and Portugal. I am sure for the renaissance cartography the the description of China, India and Southestas provided by Battuta was important as it was the one of Marco Polo.
