First off, I love this movie! It's completely full of action and humor, has an incredible cast, and it's one of Kevin Costner's best. I've had it since its release in the early 90's on vhs and decided to upgrade it to my dvd collection. The down side is; the movie just goes black in the middle of a scene and goes to the main menu without any warning. We thought something was wrong with the disc. You have to flip the dvd over about half way through to finish the movie. The movie is only 144 minutes...aren't dvd's suppost to hold several hours of info?!? This means you can't just sit on your couch and enjoy the movie all the way through. Someone has to get up to open the dvd player, flip the disc, and start play again. This may seem trivial & isn't life threatening, but it's very annoying if your a big "movie night" person. It may not matter to some people, but I would have bought a different dvd version if I had known about it.Read full review
I have always liked this movie, even though Costner is not very believable in the role of a Brit. There are times when he attempts to use a British accent in certain spots and I think it would have been better had he just used either/or. It has got something for everyone: romance, action, intrigue, danger, justice, etc. It is just an all around GREAT flick. I love owning movies I really like so that I can just watch them over and over without having to run to the video store.
One of my favorite movies. Being a descendent of this area of England, I love to watch movies of this time and area. Robin Hood must have lived to have been a part of the English lore that we have always enjoyed. This movie goes into a historical part of the man and his followers, providing an interesting idea of what it was really like to have lived in this age of sorcery, politics, classes of people, and thier lifestyles. Robin and the maid Marion products of societies' good fighting evil, as the Crusaders fight the heathen, the evil sorcerists fight against the Christians, etc. Their relationship becomes entwined with the matters of the day and the need to overthrough evil with good. The woodsy setting is so believable as to have actually been the place where Robin Hood actually met his band of "Merry" men. The forest with its beautiful little river is the perfect place to have filmed this movie. One would think without actually knowing that this place must be the Sherwood Forest a place where legends are born. Other sets in the movie may be man made but this place is a true creation of God. It is beautiful. The other sets are so defined and displayed that they are also deemed as real. The people are so true to life with the exception of Kevin Costner who does not sport the English accent. But he is very good at making you believe that the accent doesn't matter any. He has the cocky-ness of a son of an English Lord. He also displays the impish character of this type of person. The "Sherrif" of Notingham is so dastardly that he is amusing. He really acts like a spoiled brat raised by wicked person who spoiled him rotten. And the Blessed Marion - so beautiful, so raised to her position in life, is functionable as one who serves her peoples, is witty, and despite all, so human. This movie doesn't let the audience down with other characters [who are usually nothing but boring]. They are so realistic and so down to earth with their passions for life, living, and their pursuits of happiness. The characters all are so realistic that they seem to be perfect extractions of this era and place. The settings are also realistic. This is no spoof of Robin and his "Merry Men" it is a realistic movie with plenty of emotional action in it. And the way it ends is also perfect - with Sean Connery as who else but King Richard. That was perfect. This is one reason that I have worn out 2 VHS movies and now I will wear out the DVD. Also, my father's people were from an area close to Sherwood so I can watch this and I can compare these people to my ancestors that came to the USA hundreds of years ago. This is one Great movie!Read full review
I always loved this movie and wanted to show it to my daughter. Since I couldn't find it on any streaming service I bought it here. It came quickly and we watched it right away. Funny think is in the middle of the movie it just stopped. We were confused and when we finally flipped the DVD over and the rest of the movie was there. We just laughed because it was so old school.

I didn't think I was a huge Kevin Costner fan. However, as Robin Hood, he played the role perfect. Great cast, great humor, great love story. I remember the movie coming out when I was a young impressionable girl, and I wanted that love story to be mine. It's been many years since I've seen it, but watching it again now, took me back to that moment. It's as great today as it was almost 20 years ago!
