+ : amazing graphics, supports nVision 3D and looks fantastic, in game upgrades are cool, great rendering of all your favorite bat related characters - joker, scarecrow etc, the scarecrow scenes are very cool, its "point and click" fighting basically takes care of complicated moves for you, cinematic action scenes make the game movie like at times. PhysX effects like paper flying when you kick if you have an higher end nVidia card - : game play gets a little repetitive, the fighting "autocomplete" may not be to some folk's liking. Requirements: I have used this on a nVidia 8800 GtX with nVision 3D. I would argue that this is the minimum for getting good performance out of this game. My normal PC has a nVidia GTC 260 and the PhysX works great. SLi folks will love the more engaging PhysX if they can dedicate one of the cards to PhysX. Having a 120Hz monitor for nVision 3D is a plus.Read full review
The overall game is just flat out excellent! However I had the hardest time with the Games for Windows Live account. Somehow I was able to save it in the beginning without the account (not sure how that was possible), but then I decided that I wanted to upload my scores from the challenges online. Well thats when all went down hill. Tried to setup my account, which wasnt the issue. Updating the Games for Windows Live software was the biggest issue. Somehow it erased all of my saved file (& I went through the complete game & finished), so needless to say I wasn't a happy camper about that. Well I finally got my Games for Windows Live account setup, but at the cost of my original save file, while means that i'm having to play it all over again, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If I could, I would give this game 4.5 out of 5 due to the whole Games for Windows Live issue. I'm not sure how many other people have had that issue. Maybe im the only one. All I know is that there are more titles coming out which feature the Games for Windows Live bit, which means that if im gonna go after them, at least I don't have to worry about that issue in the future. Let me give you a real quick heads up here. If you don't have a Games for Windows Live account setup, do yourself a favor & set it up once you install a game that allows you this ability. It will save you time & a major annoyance. My biggest problem for me is that I don't have an Xbox 360 & don't plan on getting 1 anytime soon. Also check Gameshadow.com for all the latest patches for the game that uses Games for Windows Live since I recently found out that Batman needed a small patch.Read full review
AMAZING GRAPHICS ENGINE. GREAT GAME MECHANICS. 'LOVE THE JOKER AND HIS CHICK CONS: If during hand-to-hand combat Batman's opponent(thug) appears too far, Batman can't continue the chain of attacks, and, even while flying to perform a ground takedown, the thug has a time to get back on his feet and abort the fun. In some cases Joker's thugs got "very long legs and hands". AND THEY NEVER MISS... EVEN IF THEY HIT A TAIL OF THE FLYING AWAY CAPE... Timelined challenges - I will never be a fan of any sort of timelined challenges in any kind of video game - SHOCK AND AWE CHALLENGES WAS A VERY BAD IDEA. OTHER THOUGHTS I know it's not a death track game, but I wish I could have a few challenges and drive a batmobile and fire a couple of missiles... ha ha ha ha...
Graphics: Excellent 9.5/10 Sound: Excellent 9.5/10 Controls: Great 8.5/10 Gameplay: Excellent 9.5/10 Replay: Very Good 8.0/10 Overall: Excellent 9.0/10 Note to the reader: This game has been played through and completed in its entirety. Graphics: Excellent 9.5/10 The graphics are excellent, the cut-scenes and in-game graphics are seamless, and this is a great addition to the Fall 2009 line-up. It looks, feels, and has undertones of being "Bioshock-esque". This title pushes this generations graphics and leaves the purchaser wanting more. The shadows, lighting effects, colors, but more importantly the motions and combat animations are great, and really immerse you into the game. The bad guys, though repetitive, are detailed along with the backgrounds, and environments. This is a rich, and engrossing, environment. Sound: Excellent – 9.5/10 The thing that sets this game apart is the voice acting. Games have had problems with cheesy actors, but this title gets Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil to do the voices of Batman and the Joker (from the Animated series). This game has the sound, from the sounds of the punches, groans, the heightening tension of the music when an attack is coming, and the sounds of The Asylum. The ambiance is set in the different areas by the increasing tones of heightening sense of importance through the use of music in this game. Controls: Great - 8.5/10 Very well done and responsive control set. During combat, the controls can be pinpoint accurate, and makes it fun when playing the challenges. The downside is the use of Batman's arsenal, which the controls are lack accuracy. Gameplay: Excellent – 9.5/10 Let me start by saying that when playing this game, there is nothing better than having an excellent Batman Game. With or without Batman, this game would be fun regardless, but just having this license makes it that much better. However, that being said, this game is a single player experience, and that is not a bad thing. Having a multi-player may have actually hurt this title. The computer A.I. will shoot you in the back, hunt you down, and will be aware of where you have been. Replay Value: Very Good - 8.0/10 Once the game is over, you will most likely be wanting more. Luckily, there are many unlockables, multiple difficulty levels, and a challenge mode, with more maps to come, to keep you going. You will want to find all the upgrades for every weapon, and compare your times to your friends. After all that is said and done, you will have got your money's worth. Overall – Excellent 9.0/10 This is an excellent game, and is almost a 10/10, but it is not perfect. This game is a nice addition to the end of the Summer 2009 release schedule and is worth every penny. This game is a great mix of pure action and stealth. This game is a mix of Gears of War, Bioshock, and Assassin's Creed. Where this game does many things right, it is flawed and glitch in just as many areas. If this were another title name, I would still have enjoyed it still as much. Verdict: BUY ITRead full review
When I first heard about another Batman game I was a bit skeptical because of the fact that there have been a lot of previous Batman video game titles that have come in the past and quite honestly have not lived up to expectations. But when Eidos and Rocksteady geared up and made Batman Arkham Asylum, I was preparing myself for a disappointment already. Not only about Batman's record in video game sonsoles but also the fact that this Game would be based on one of the greatest graphic novels about Batman. Having read Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum made me wonder a bit on how in the world are they gonna translate this into the video game? The Graphic novel really tocuhed on some very mature issues, delving into very deep on the pyschological makeup and challenges of Batman as well as some of his rogue's gallery. Also striking was the history of Arkham Asylum and the inevitable descent to madness by it's founder. Such complex storylines embedded on this book made me fear that a watered down PG rated version of this story translated into the video game would do no justice to it's namesake. I was wrong!!! The fact that Paul Dini penned the script for this game and cast Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to reprise their roles from the Animated series gave me a sense of hope that they just might get this game right. AND they DID! Although it is not strict adaptation of the graphic novel, it's story unfolds in much the same way, with the premise that Batman is taking on the most difficult challenge of his life both physically, and mentally. As the story unfolds, it is clear that Batman is on a journey that would be comparable to Dante's journey into hell because really Arkham Asylum is Batman's Hell. For anybody that's a fan of Batman this game is an absolute must have if just for the story itself. The gameplay on this game if very simple, Freeflow combat is a breeze but no less challenging and for the first time ever on a video game, really exemplifies Batman's skills a Great Martial Artist. Some of the moves even pays homage to the recent Batman movies of incorporating a little bit of the Keysi fighting method. The predator mode of taking down Batman's enemies silently using an array of gadgets and his stealth techniques make the action sequences very enjoyable and exciting. It really feels like you have become Batman in this game. Overall the game is great but as far as re playability I would not rate it as high because once you've actually finished the game. All the upgrades that you've gotten does not carry over to a new game. Although understandable because some of this upgrades are integral parts of the storyline but it would have been fun nonetheless. Because of it's success there is a sequel coming out (you can check the trailer out at arkhamhasmoved.com) and I have a feeling that they would loosely base it on another Batman storyline epic Batman: No Man's Land. All I can say after this is I just can't wait!Read full review
