IN 1940, Walt Disney's vision of animation and classical music came to life. Unfortunately, the average patron of Disneys animated films did not imbrance the Fantasia movie. Kids were restless, and their parents were disappointed. Move forward to the 90s, and Roy Disney and crew were able to update the film. The sound in 5.1 home stereo, is great, and after watching the making of the film clip, it made the film really enjoyable. My copy is a used copy, and for less that 4.00, I will enjoy the film from time to time.

I liked the music because it was beautiful. The pictures were clear and so colorful. I would recommend it to people who love to listen to music. The movie was also funny and sad in all the different musical selections and pictures. The movie had vivid pictures and exciting music. The only bad part was I didn't have access to the bonus features of the movie. Overall, this movie is a great one that you should buy!
I really like my dvd. I am a music teacher. I teach music pre-k through 8th grade. I use Fantasia as a fun way to learn about classical music and composers. I was very frustrated with the VHS form of Fantasia because I could never que it up to the right composer and or theme. With the dvd, however, the music and subject is readily available. This saves me a lot of time and preserves interest of my students. I really appreciated the information that was enclosed in the dvd. It has added to the presentations for my classes. So thank you.
This DVD fails in comparison to the original. This DVD focuses on the process of combining the animation to the music. The original Fantasia focuses on (1)Absolute Music (2)Music that Paints a Picture and (3)Music that tells a Story. The modern Fantasia seemed rushed, from the animation to the timing of the music to the animation. Honestly, the use of big name celebrities does not make this Fantasia worth it's name because the essense of the music and the art is overlooked. The music performance is LOUD. Why use only one movement on Beethoven's 5th? The commentary focuses on the creation of the animation rather than the music. Fantasia was about making the music come alive through art. Fantasia 2000 seems to be about animation and using music in the background.
While nothing can touch the iconic original Fantasia, this lovely sequel captures the joy of the classical music and the beauty of some really extraordinary animation. I purchased this DVD to ensure that my grandchildren would have a copy that they could watch as they are in love with some of the similar though not as elaborate Baby videos that utilize the same premise. These pieces of cinema art are a welcome change from videos that sell characters and frantic activity. What better way to introduce children to the world of great music. The DVD also incorporates the Sorcerer's Apprentice from the original. Well worth having and enjoying with the next generation.
