Altered Carbon-Not Impressed
This book was picked for a read for a book group that I'm a member of. First off, I'm not much of a sci-fi fan so I was probably somewhat prejudiced against it. The premise of the book is that people are composed of a sleeve (their physical body) and a cortical stack (their spiritual being for lack of a better term.) The stack can be put into another sleeve if needed. The protagonist is sent to find out if a prominent person was murdered of committed suicide. His sleeve and stack are destroyed but a replacement for both is available. He solves the puzzle. The book is very long and the first two-thirds of it is very disjointed and slow going. The last third finally made sense of most of the first part and wasn't too bad. It seems like it was written by a high school boy with a boob ...
