As far as I know, nobody has attempted to adapt further installments of the Dune series except for this melodrama featuring Alice Krige as Paul's mom, Susan Sarandon as a deliciously naughty villain, and a young James MacAvoy as the son of Paul Atraedes. This was a a sci-fi channel original in 3 parts, and aside from a less than brilliant script and some sloppy early CGI, it is still fun, and the scenes of Leto running like a superhuman as he transforms into the worm are really exhilarating.As far as I know, nobody has attempted to adapt further installments of the Dune series except for this melodrama featuring Alice Krige as Paul's mom, Susan Sarandon as a deliciously naughty villain, and a young James MacAvoy as the son of Paul Atraedes. I am a Dune fan/freak. I have even recorded several of the books for the blind. Frank Herbert is my favorite author and God Emperor is my favorite of the series. However, when the new hard cover of Children of Dune came out recently, I read it and realized I had forgotten the depth and wealth contained therein. A gift of Amazon.com allowed me to chance upon the TV miniseries and I went for it greedily. I got what I expected. A sincere attempt to capture the essence of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune that has the same limitations of the two original Dune movies. The books cannot be represented well on TV. The dialogue, frequently used to convey the story, was stilted, limited, even mechanical at times. The story is too grand, the written characters too well defined, the language too ... I am glad I got it, I will watch it again to register the specifics more attentively. I didn't dislike the movie, just wished for a more fulfilling experience.

This continuation of the excellent "Dune" miniseries, "Children Of Dune" is a failure of the same magnitude that the first miniseries was a success. It reduces Frank Herbert's classic Science fiction story to a lurid soap-opera like tale. The first miniseries had elements of this, but they were not as prominent and therefore somewhat forgivable. The acting, screenplay and cinematography were all weak although not terribly so by television standards. Quite a number of the original cast were replaced, which doesn't help. The only part that was somewhat interesting was the possession of Paul's sister by the spirit of Baron Harkonnen. If you are a fan of the great writing of Frank Herbert, you will be gravely disappointed. The two greatest (arguably) fantasy epics of the 20th Century, "Lord ... Suprisingly good
As a longtime fan of all things dune my hopes were not exactly soaring for this tv mini series. I had previously watched the dune miniseries based on the first book and was quite disappointed. This second miniseries was surprisingly good. although some of the characters were recast is was for the best. The storyline followed those of the two books it represents very well, while at the same not being BORING. The film does have slow parts, but altogether it keep me interested. Although lacking any huge battles or epic moments the charm of the series makes up for lacking visuals. I would recommend this to anyone who loves dune and is dying to see more. Children Of Dune--A Must Have
This movie is great!! Very faithful to the books--2 & 3 ones. The SciFi Channel does what the original maker of Dune couldn't or wouldn't do, made movies that really kick butt!! Fans of Dune have long await for this series to be made. They are long and highly detailed with excellent graphics and story telling. The charactors are made to appear human and in some cases, more so with their fralities and mistakes. Abit, that this director did take some liberities with some of the material from the books, but overall, it is very faithful to the content.
