Wish I had while in school

I have always enjoyed history, world Civ. But sadly the number of books that put me to sleep I've given up counting. What an excellent, easy to read, keeps your interest book. Someone introduce it to todays students, they wont be bored. I opened it in the middle the day it arrived to determine where in my "read" pile it should go. And I've continued reading every day since, you should know my read pile is endless, the fact it jumped so far ahead should tell you it's a "must read" even if history is not your thing, it will lay out all those chunks of history you learned each year in school into one canvas as if you were a fly on the wall of time observing it all. A++

  • A Must-Have for Students

When forced to read something for class, my expectations are usually rather low. When buying this product, I thought the best part of it would be that my teacher only assigned the first half-dozen chapters. Now, after reading it, I'll be completing the rest for pleasure reading. The language used is easy to understand while simultaneously painting a vivid portrait of events usually made dry by modern textbooks. This paired with the unusual perspective of the oppressed rather than the opressers, A People's History of the United States reads more like a novel than nonfiction.A must-have for students who discover at the bottom of the page that the boring words haven't gotten to their brain.

  • American History must read.

Wow! Rips the scabs off of our heritage including the tactics hundreds of years ago Employed by the ruling class to keep the lower classes at odds and confused in order to protect legacy wealth. Same thing as going on today which explains a movement by right wingers to have this book banned from schools.

  • This book is a MUST read.

This book is one of the best books I have ever read. I am a History teacher in a high school and I take pieces of this book and have my students read them. This book gives a new perspective on United States history. Howard Zinn led a new group of historians that were able to go to college on the G.I. Bill and bring a new perspective on history. Before World War II, most college students were wealthy and after World War II the G.I. Bill allowed poor and underprivileged men to go to college and bring a new perspective with them. This is an example of his new history. This book is highly recommended for history buffs and anyone interested in a newer history than the one you read in your old history textbooks.

  • Best US History Book. Ever

best US History Book. EVER. Zinn's history presents US History in a version that is like a print to a negative. He tells our 'story' from the perspective of the masses...not the oppressors. Starting with Native Amerians, and working up through African Americans, workers, women, war opposers, and beyond...you get to hear the voice of Americans that are rarely heard in conventional US History books. Very valuable read!
