Orchestra quality, nice even tone with graduated pitch, and LOUD! Mad out of solid stainless steel,and truly durable. More so than I expected, as it was a gift for the grandchild. Eh, like having Sideshow Bob at the house all day. Judicious use of this instrument by others is advised.

It doesn't slide smoothly
I gave the whistle two stars because the basic tone and range are good and I thought the construction is solid. But I think that the term "orchestral slide whistle" is quite misleading and I speak as a symphonic pops conductor and trombonist. The instrument cannot produce a SMOOTH glissando. I even tried putting slide oil and slide cream on the moving part and it didn't help. I bought the Acme Slide Whistle sold by Steve Weiss Music instead. That whistle is smaller but with the same range (a little over an octave) and produces a smooth glissando both ascending and descending. And it also has an attractive timbre. I think it is also somewhat less expensive. I gave the whistle two stars because the basic tone and range are good and I thought the construction is solid. Great Quality - Lousy Sound
The build quality is really well done. The materials are sturdy and feel quite nice. However when it comes to the sound, it is horrible. My niece has one that she got from the dollar store and it sounds so much better.

Pretty freaking nice! My 4 1/2 year old grandson can play simple songs all by his self with some simple instructions and demonstration, little pricey but money well spent if it Kindles his musical interest! And it does! Tell them not to run and play, don't bend the rod ect. He was very proud of his self and so I'm I! Hope he remembers the toy grand pa gave him the rest of his life!
