Eagerly anticipated by her legions of fans, this sixth novel in Diana Gabaldon's bestselling Outlander saga is a masterpiece of historical fiction from one of the most popular authors of our time. Now,A Breath of Snow and Ashescontinues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence - with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping fromThe Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie's death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future. From the Hardcover edition.

"The sixth instalment of the adventures of Claire and Jamie Fraser, already number one on the bestseller list, is a whopping 980 pages of action-packed escapism. It also has surprisingly melancholy and insightful views on the experience of growing old and dealing with the losses that entails.... One of the things that sets Gabaldon apart from other romance writers is exhaustive research of the times in which her characters live, so evident in her attention to period detail.... plot lines and stand-alone yarns are expertly woven together with the overall theme of impending doom and the question of predetermination." -- Toronto Star "Fans of Diana Gabaldon's popular Outlander series have another rousing historical-science-fiction-romance novel to savour in A Breath of Snow and Ashes .... The book was in relatively good condition (described as Acceptable), except for the front bottom corner of the book that appeared to be bitten by a dog (maybe?) but the damage is minimal. It doesn’t affect any of the pages or text. Thanks for a great copy at a great price. Will continue to be a customer for this seller.

  • Just as exciting as her other novels....

I can not rave enough on this book and the entire series. The characters are so real to me now I expect them to walk in the room. This is a time travel book and is full of historical facts, events from 18th century Scotland. Gabaldon is very acurate of Scottish life in the American colonies during the pre-Revolutionary period. A romantic story full of love, hate, war, highland violence and intrugue. Language is moderate. Some sex, but scenes are not overly offensive. Characters are bright and vivid. Very LONG books, but they did end too soon! I Recommend all the Outlander books by this author.

  • perfect ,it slips into story so easy goes with others

this series of novels is beyond great. i have not read any other books of this caliber.i have been reading novels as far back as 1966.nothing can touch this series.it is full of history, romance, intrigue, some facts, everlasting ,unending all consuming LOVE.it just has everything we want in a novel.i really enjoy the way that diane continues the story into all six books. i first noticed this series of books at the high school where i substituet. they were in the historical area.none of the students were interestedin them as they were too thick(you know how they are about reading, the smaller the better).anyway the libarian told me about these.said i might be interested .she knew how i liked to read about scotland (we dicussed how much i liked scotland) was i ever interested. best suggestion ...

  • Gabaldon more stories of intriguing men in Kilts

The sixth book in the adventures of Claire and Jamie Fraser. They have crossed centuries and oceans to live a life together on the newly formed Fraser's Ridge in the American colonies. Diana Gabaldon creates characters that you will love, hope for, laugh with, cry with, dream about, cheer for, and ultimately never forget, long after you've finished reading her books. Diana's characters truly come to life and remain with you forever. It was again, impossible to put the book down. This book is spectacular in every way. The mental images Diana can weave and convey to the reader's mind with mere words is simply amazing. I highly recommend this entire series!

  • Excellent Series

The Outlander Series is my favorite by far. Diana Gabaldon weaves, historical fiction, fantasy and romance together seamlessly, such that you almost believe in time travel and falling into a cleft in a stone, The love between Jamie and Clare Fraser is touching without being sappy and gives one hope that they may one day feel a love so strong. I've been moved to tears more than once reading this series and I definitely not someone that happens to often! You are so deeply engrossed in the novel you've read 500 pages before you know it. I've read this series at least 10 times and every time I am as enthralled as the last.
