    For me, this is one of the most important books I have ever read. I rarely re-read books but this one I have been through numerous times. "The mind is a wonderful tool, but a terrible master." (author unknown) This story, whether the author intended it or not, is a journey through circumstances as perceived by someone owned by their intellect. For anyone familiar with Dr. David Hawkins' "Enlightenment Scale", they will see this book as a trip through the intellectual realm of the 400s right up to the final paragraph when he steps a toe over that significant 500 boundary into feeling. For those who have read Pirsig's other offering - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance - they will relieved/dismayed to find he has discarded the rational/emotional basis for his Metaphysics.
