About this product

Product Information

This comprehensive introduction to probability and statistics will give you the solid grounding you need no matter what your engineering specialty. Through the use of lively and realistic examples, the author helps you go beyond simply learning about statistics to actually putting the statistical methods to use. Rather than focus on rigorous mathematical development and potentially overwhelming derivations, the book emphasizes concepts, models, methodology, and applications that facilitate your understanding.

  • Almost Perfect

I bought the International Edition of the book for my husband after many reassurances that these were the same as the regular American editions. Once classes started, however, the teacher said not to use these books, as they contain slightly different homework problems. Sure enough, with every homework assignment, there are one or two problems that he works out that are different. It would be a great buy if your teacher does not plan on assigning problems out of the book.

  • Eh...

I feel that some of the in-text examples are good, because many of them can be applied to real-life issues one may face in the field. However, I wish that there were more examples to calculate; meaning, as you're reading, you're able to set up and solve an applicable problem rather than waiting until the end of the chapter to do the exercises. Most mathematics books have examples for you to calculate throughout the text, and while this one has a few, none of them seem to solve any problems. They're there mostly to just state a fact or statistic, rather than help you gain some experience with the formulas given.

  • Good book- international addition has diff prob numbers

This book explains the intro stat concepts well. My teacher is terrible but I'm making it through with this book. The problems are good practice. The thing to watch out for is that the problem numbers for the international addition are different from the problem numbers in the US addition. The content is the same, just the numbers are different.

  • International Editions are just fine

Like a lot of people, I was apprehensive about purchasing an International Edition textbook, mostly because I was afraid it was going to be in a different language or have different content. I am happy to report this book is identical, except for the cover and the fact it is paperback instead of hardcover. The paper quality is good, very similar to the original book (which I now can return to my university!!). It says right on the book "This edition is for use outside the U.S. only", but oh well! Great buy!
