  • A Good Resource for New Parents

I bought this book because, being a first-time mother, my midwife strongly recommended I have it. It contains information on nearly everything about your baby from birth to toddler years, including feeding, health, behavior, growth, sleep and child-rearing. I love the perspective of the authors: they are from the medical world itself (being a doctor and nurse), but are also wary of its dangers. You know you're getting a balanced view of medications, interventions, etc. Beware, though, of their parenting philosophy: they are strong attachment parenting (AP) proponents. They encourage unrestricted feeding, slingwearing, co-sleeping and not letting the baby cry. I'm not making a judgment call on that style of parenting, but simply stating that this parenting philosophy slants ALL of ...

  • Excellent Book. All wonderful advise!

This book is wonderful! Great advice, probably more insightful than my pediatrician. It helped me with breastfeeding my newborn (read the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding too) and with other things that I might have called-and subsequently visited-the pediatrician for. For example when I thought my child has a cold, it was really just some mucus that needed to come out, the book told me what to look for to determine what the cause was and how to use the eye-dropper and aspirator to "hose his nose". I read it during my pregnancy and it really prepared me for a lot of things. And now that my boy is here I'm devouring the section on the developmental stages. LOVE THIS BOOK! My research shows me that its written by an extremely reputable source: Dr. Sears and his wife, inspired by their ...

  • This book is AWESOME!

I would definitely recommend this book. It is probably the best baby book I've read. I love that it is written by a doctor and nurse couple with tons of kids of their own. I love the little stories that are interjected from their own lives. It's written in such a way that even if you don't agree with some of the ideas, you don't feel like they are pressuring you to think like they do. I believe it says in the book more than once that you should read other things and make the decisions based on what works best for your family. I first read this book after my first son was born, and had loaned my copy out to someone. I missed it as a reference, so I knew I needed new one after the birth of our second son! I actually bought a total of 3 copies of this book because I love it so much I ...

  • 0- 2yrs old-ish parenting manual

This book saved the day, countless times! It's especially good for first time parents who have no clue what they're doing (even if they , at first, think that they do), who would otherwise have to call the doctor all the time. It answers questions clearly & completely w/o bombarding you with information that you really don't need. It tells you what to do, when to do it & when to worry. You do NOT need to read the thing cover to cover. You can totally use it as a reference manual and only look up the info you need at that moment.
