About this product

Product Information

The Overspent American explores why so many of us feel materially dissatisfied, why we work staggeringly long hours and yet walk around with ever-present mental "wish lists" of things to buy or get, and why Americans save less than virtually anyone in the world. Unlike many experts, Harvard economist Juliet B. Schor does not blame consumers' lack of self-discipline. Nor does she blame advertisers. Instead she analyzes the crisis of the American consumer in a culture where spending has become the ultimate social art.

  • Marketing Ethics class .... textbook

I purchased this book for a Marketing Ethics class requirement. The book is in good condition and appears to be an easy read. The author is very pationate about her opinions. We're using this textbook as a way of getting reactions out of the students.

  • Thought provoking book.

I bought this book because I have become so sick of the greed and materialism that I see every day and just about everywhere. This book is good because it has helped me to affirm what I have already been thinking about anyway. As a society, we have become manipulated into buying unnecessary things. I am beginning a journey now into cleaning out clutter and living a simpler life!
