About this product

Product Information

Reviews
This Bosch adventure is a great read that can't be put down. Harry's getting on in years but is still a great detective., Connelly nails the death-of-newspapers theme....Alternating point of view between villain and reporter, Connelly builds tension expertly, using dramatic irony to its fullest, screw-tightening potential. Even confirmed Harry Bosch fans will have to admit that this Harry-less novel is one of Connelly's very best., Connelly masterfully whips the reader back and forth between McEvoy's point of view and the killer's, accelerating the pace as the full threat to McEvoy and Rachel Walling becomes clearer. The Scarecrow is Connelly in top form. And reading it will make it impossible for you to ever again think that when you do something online, no one's watching., Connelly is one of the masters of contemporary crime fiction....Connelly's masterful narrative...proceeds in alternate chapters...which adds to this particularly chilling heavy's creepy aspect. It's a terrific device. Connelly always has been frank about his admiration for Raymond Chandler. It's a high bar to set for oneself, but he comes as close to clearing it as any mystery writer of his generation., What drives this story are not the vivid action scenes but the more internal clue-reading of his heroes as they piece together the ingenious mystery plots., With its ingenious story line and the twisted brilliance of the creeps involved, The Scarecrow holds its own with its predecessor [ The Poet ], which was a breakthrough novel for Connelly., PRAISE FOR THE OVERLOOK : "Connelly succeeds, again, at creating a first-rate crime novel--fast-paced and dizzying....Connelly, once again, has hit a home run.", There's something so comforting about knowing you're in the hands of a master when you pick up a new book....Connelly has produced one of the most impressive bodies of work in crime fiction, both an in-depth study of the darker side of human nature and an ongoing biography of the city of Los Angeles, told through the guise of sharply plotted, endlessly entertaining mystery novels., If Bosch is our detective, Connelly is our laureate, proving again that popular fiction at its best....is also literature., The Scarecrow is a dire warning about the dangers of electronic snooping. And it is a page-turning thriller--cleverly plotted, fast-paced and crisply written., Terrific....Connelly never stops doling out the suspense as action leads to counteraction....His thriller is an addictive read that, once it grabs you in those first few pages, won't let go of you....High-grade entertainment., Michael Connelly is a hard-boiled pro. His novels are remarkable for their authentic detailing of police procedures.

    Great writer

As with all his books, Michael does a good job of keeping your interest and developing the characters.

    Book infused with perfume

I bought this as a new book, as my leukemia makes me hypersensitive to book mold or fragrances. Unfortunately, someone wearing strong perfume handled the book and it is nauseating. The author and story are excellent

  • Jack & Rachel together again! Enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this book, as it picks up with the two main characters years after The Poet. But you didn't need to read that book to move on with The Scarecrow. This story line was interesting and a fast easy read. Ended typically as his others books. Long lead in with a somewhat quick ending.

  • Another Hit by Michael Connelly

boy, just when you thought Connelly couldn't do any better, he does. This gripping story about reporter Jack McEvoy (Connelly's alter ego??)will once again, not let you put one of Connelly's books down until you are finished. Bringing back Rachel Walling, the FBI agent, and Jack to work together, they once again bring down a serial killer, in his latest novel. All I can say is, can't wait for the Harry Bosch this fall!! Another must read.

  • Keep writing!

I have read every Michael Connelly novel and he never disappoints. I especially like that he stays current with technology: cellphones, computers, etc. And this one has a serial killer who uses digital technology to stalk his victims and deflect his enemies. Jack McEvoy is as strong as Harry Bosch, and a bit younger, so I hope for more from this character. I just wish he could write faster!
