Good Book. Needed it for a summer semester class when the school bookstore ran out of the book. Information occasionally conficted with that my teacher gave (possibly the teachers error) or wasn't as specific as he wanted. Pictures are clear and lots of good information on things relating to the subjects in the book. For example, they don't just say this particular piece was used in Japanese tea ceremonies, they tell a bit about how tea ceremonies came about and why Zen buddhism influences it to look the way it does. Very bulky and heavy, need a good backpack and strong back to haul around everyday.Good Book. Needed it for a summer semester class when the school bookstore ran out of the book. The Bible of Art
What can one say? As an art student, the history of art couldn't be covered more completely than with Gardner's Art Through the Ages. To give the laymen an idea, this was the required textbook for the art history classes in my fine arts degree. So it's all here, don't worry. Your only concern will probably be that for the hundred-some dollar pricetag, the only thing you will be getting is a really good education and not much else.What can one say? As an art student, the history of art couldn't be covered more completely than with Gardner's Art Through the Ages. Excellent reference book
This is not the latest edition of this book, with that said it is still an amazing resource for my daughter's AP Art History class and the price is right.

This is one of the more detailed textbooks I have ever had to use for my schooling. It is easy to skim to find necessary information and still easy to read word for word.

Thorough Review of Art History
This book was used in both of my Art HIstory Civilization courses in college. I like this book because it is thorough in its persual of art throughout civilization in all parts of the world. However, it does focus heavily on western art. The only drawback is its enormous size.
