Frannie O'Neill is a young and talented veterinarian living in Colorado. Plagued by the mysterious murder of her husband, Frannie throws herself into her work, but it is not long before another bizarre murder occurs and Kit Harrison, a troubled and unconventional FBI agent, arrives on her doorstep. Late one night, near the woods of her animal hospital, Frannie stumbles upon a strange, astonishing phenomenon that will change the course of her life forever: an eleven-year-old girl named Max. With breathtaking energy, Max leads Frannie and Kit to uncover one of the most diabolical and inhuman plots of modern science. Bold and compelling, When the Wind Blows is a story of suspense and passion as only James Patterson could tell it.

The books that spawned the "Maximum Ride" series.

A big Alex Cross fan, I have enjoyed dozens of JP's mysteries. These two books are more fantasy/speculative fiction than mystery. The tale of engineered, winged children is certainly out of the ordinary. These two books spawned the spin-off "Maximum Ride" series, aimed at a young-adult audience. My wife adores the "Maximum Ride" books (I do not share her enthusiasm for them). I found excellent copies of the nine Maximum Ride books for her on eBay. Then she wanted copies of these two volumes from which the series sprang. eBay came through again with this great set. My wife is thrilled.

  • The Good News About James Patterson

This book had a bad effect on my work load because when I began reading it, I realized I wasn't going to be able to put it down. In "When the Wind Blows", not only are the bad guys very clearly bad, but the good guys are children with wings. They can fly, and Maximum (their girl leader)is a character worth rooting for. She actually has a personality, as do a number of the other characters in the book. "When the Wind Blows" really is good news, because it shows that James Patterson can overcome his hack prose (sorry) with a spell-binding yarn. I recommend this book, and, more especially, its sequel. In fact, I started by reading the sequel, "The Lake House" and immediately after began my search on ebay for "When the Wind Blows." I recommend this as a delightful summer read -- there's ...

  • It's ... okay

Hadn't read Patterson's books before. Came across "Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment" and really, really enjoyed it. (Get that book.) Read somewhere that "When the Wind Blows" was a prequel to "Max Ride". Well, it's more like he had an idea, wrote an okay story (that I haven't bothered to finish reading), and at a later date refined that idea into an exceptional story. Have also read "Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever" and where "Angel" soared, "School" smacked into the windshield alongside "When the Wind Blows". Anywho, I'm just glad that I didn't pay full price for the book, because it's not worth that much. "WtWB" doesn't really relate to the "Max Ride" series, so if you can get "WtWB" at the library, do that and save your money. Buy "Angel" to keep for frequent re-reading. Check-out ...

  • Grabs ahold of the reader

I need to make clear that I unlike most others who will read this book have never really read James Patterson, ie: Alex Cross Novels, so from this standing I really enjoyed this book. Sure the premise is a little hard to believe but take the ride and go with it and enjoy! This book kept me turning the pages and hating having to put it down. I am in the process of finding the sequels to it. I HATE paying retail for a book so am looking for a good deal here of course on EBAY!!
