This was not the original Real Book but a copy. I could tell because I have other real books to compare with. The original Real Books have "Real Book" written on the binder and "Hal Leonard" with a UPC symbol on the back cover. My copy had neither of these. Also all the pages of the book I received have black copy marks of the page slots that the binder goes into. But I will say that the copy was very well made and the binder seems better than the original Real Book binders.

    REAL BOOK 6TH ED.

    Lots of good tunes, mostly well written though there are still some errors and omissions, such as standard intros or endings that are left out. If used regularly the book soon starts falling apart , mostly because the cheap plastic comb . It would be better to have a metal wire coil to hold it together. The fake books I have with a metal wire have never needed replacement even after heavy use.

    I'd prefer an earlier edition

    I had the 5th edition for Eb and there were a lot more jazz standards in it. I had hoped to have more or less the same tunes so I didn't have to transpose everything but I'm not recognizing a lot of the tunes in this edition. That said, there's plenty of music in this book, it's just that I'll have to go back to transposing...

    Real Book and a Real Value

    Solid set of tunes in a sweet standard issue Real Book plastic binding. It ain't a Sher metal spiral binding but we know that going in. For the money it's well worth it. I have Vol1 first edition from 1980 and it is falling apart. Was nice to get a new updated version.

    Crucial Resource for We Mere Mortal Musicians

    More and better formatted content than the "other" Real Book. I bought Vol2 also, in the mini format for comparison. Mini is readable from music stand distance. Both sizes have their place I'd say.
