I also have the BDP-S5100 which has impressed when playing onto 1080p. The 6200 has two improvements - a faster CPU provides snappier menu and streaming menu performance and the 4k up-scaling. The latter I initially believed was important, but have subsequently concluded this is entirely relative to the up-scaling performance of the TV. The Sony TV is use does an excellent job of up-scaling 1080p, so no real advantage. Still, the fast performance justifies the additional expense for me.

This received two stars from me. Here's why: The Cons: § Freezes up several times per week, have to unplug it, re-plug it to get a response, § Can't decide if it wants to recognize my wireless keyboard, sometimes it does, sometimes it won't, § Generates an inordinate amount of heat, had to add a fan to my entertainment center, § On/Off and Open/Close buttons are poorly placed, hard to feel and have poor travel and operability, § Too light, unit shifts when applying gentle pressure to close tray, aggravated by lousy open/close button § Can't decide if I have a USB drive attached in the rear USB slot, using a Sony Microvault USB drive, it often fails to find it, § Browser implementation is poor; navigation a nightmare, no Adobe Flash § Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz, no 5GHz band, poor reception compared to the BDP-BX57, finally hardwired it with cat5e § Nonstandard form factor, the top is not flat § Amazon streaming application freezes device requiring disconnection from mains power and a cold boot The Pros: § Easy to hook up to the surround sound amp, § New smaller form factor Sony remote is easy to use, easy to tell apart from other remotes, § Wide range of streaming services available for video and music, § Looks great, sounds great, at least as good as the three year old unit it replaced. § Netflix interface is easy to use; Amazon less so. I bought this to replace a Sony BDP-BX57. I like the picture and sound, everything else about it has me ready to move on to a different player. I probably should have gotten the BDP-S7200 or another full size, flat top player. With this one running so hot it is not a good idea to stack anything on top of it so the angled top is a blessing in disguise. To encourage over/under air circulation I placed the device on four 1.5 inch tall spacers in addition to adding an 80mm fan to the entertainment center. After years of carefree use of the previous unit I find the BDP-S6200 to be unreliable, requiring too much intervention and finicky. I feel like it is 2002 again.Read full review

Player works fine. It definitely arrived in used condition with scratches and what looks like a burn around the disk tray face. Functionally the only hiccup I've noticed is that if I power off the player with a disk in it, it won't power back on with the button on the player, but it does turn back on with the remote button. Feature-wise, the player is great, but I haven't tried a 3D disk yet. I have been a little disappointed though with the time it takes to initially establish a network connection. It can take several minutes. First few times, with no clear signs of progress, I gave up thinking the network card was no good. Also, the remote is rather small and when using with Netflix I had to guess a lot to figure out navigation. As a result, using Netflix is much easier through my XBox, TVs, cellphones, tablets and Surface Pro. I don't like using Netflix through the Sony player. But given the features, and that it plays well, if the online features aren't critical, for a good price I'd recommend it.Read full review
I am happy with my purchase. It is easy to use. The picture quality is good. I have used region 1 and 2 blueray discs and it works.

When my new Sony 75" XBR TV was installed, I had to make a choice, run it through my receiver and loose the features of my Home Theater, or use the TV alone and loose my Home Theater. I chose the Home Theater and its singular remote control operation. Then I learned that if I employed a Blue Ray DVD, I could restore access to the TV's 'smart features'. I went with the Sony DVD and it solved the problem.
