I will admit, I bought this printer because I had store credit that I could use. Otherwise, I couldn't have afforded it. So the big question is, how has it worked? I'd have to say great! I bought it several years ago. It's been so long that I do forget when. It's been through a few cases of paper by now (translation - tens of thousands of pages). And, although I've had to replace the toner a few times, I haven't had to repair or replace any parts of the printer itself. The toner is an issue that makes some people balk at a laser printer. In this case, the cartridge is over 5 times the cost of an inkjet cartridge. However, it lasts more than 10 times as long, and doesn't dry out like my ink cartridges do (not that I let this printer rest enough that ink would dry). The quality is also worth the extra cost. It says it goes to 600 dpi (with some emulation taking it even higher). In most cases, 300 dpi is plenty fine. But if you really need the higher resolution (such as a sharp black-and-white photo), it's nice to know this can handle it. The only problems I have had were related to a print cartridge. It was a re-manufactured one (and not an HP). And, as happens occasionally, the cartridge went bad. It dropped some toner in the wrong places while not putting toner in other right places that it should have gone. However, the store replaced the cartridge, the printer recovered, and all is still high-quality all the way. You can get "disposable" laserjets nowadays for under a hundred bucks (after rebates). And, for the casual home user, they will work great; by the time the printer dies, they'll have the new model disposables in. But, if you need long-life, high quality printing, then this is the way to go. If you can afford a great printer, then the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 2100m is one you could go for with confidence!Read full review
The ink cartridges for inkjet printers are simply too darned expensive and require changing far too often for people who use their printers a lot. Think LASER to create economy in your budget for printers. I own an HP LasetJet 4 that I had refurbished and it has given me extraordinary service and value over the years, and continues to provide excellent value and service at home. However, the LaserJet 4 is a very old model, and I have been looking for something affordable in a pre-owned Laser printer that would give my office the same kind of economy, quality and reliability my HP LaserJet 4 has provided so well over the years. That's when I found the HP LaserJet 2100. The design is similar and functions are familiar to HP users. The drivers can be loaded from Compact Disc or from hp.com and the parts support will be there for years to come. I probably run more than 500 pages per week through this machine and have no (read ZERO) problems with this excellent machine.Read full review

This printer is a great printer for the home user. Why because quality of the prints are good and the toner is reasonable size. The other big benefit is the printer can be hooked up to you network via an optional network card. A huge benifit if you have more then one computer or have a laptop in the house. Why because you can then print using wifi and not need any cables on the printer or have another computer on. I would not reccomend this for an office envirement unless your using it as a personal printer.
Purchased this printer about 2 weeks ago and so far works flawlessly. Cannot tell this printer from a new unit out of the box. GREAT VALUE, HIGHLY RECOMMEND......
