Reads from usb and cd.
I tested this with a 32 GB usb flash drive and it will read up to 999 songs. That was shock to me. To get to the songs at the end I had to push the back button. To get it to read some of the songs, but it does work. It comes with four 1.2 volt rechargeable batteries that charge when it's plugged in. It also has a pretty good volume for something this size.
